SAMUT PRAKAN — Although it’s a family matter, an Indian man who quarreled with his Thai wife sought help from the police for mediation after his wife asked for a divorce, leaving him with only a refrigerator as marital property.
On September 3, Mr. Siamprasad Dube, Vice Chairman of the Ministerial Assistant Committee’s working group, accompanied Mr. Radesh, a 52-year-old Indian national, to meet with Police Lieutenant Sathian Chusriwat, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Samut Prakan City Police Station.
They requested mediation and filed a daily record as evidence that Radesh’s Thai wife, to whom he had been married for over 30 years, had fallen out of love and wanted to separate. She had also kicked him out of the house, leaving him homeless. The only possession he left with was an old refrigerator.
Radesh, the heartbroken Indian man, revealed that 30 years ago, he met Nuch, 53, through her mother’s introduction while attending a merit-making ceremony at Chai Mongkol Temple in Samut Prakan. He fell in love at first sight, as Nuch was beautiful, spoke sweetly, and was attentive, causing him to be enchanted and decide to date her.
Later, he discovered that Nuch had four children from a previous relationship. Although disappointed, he thought he had already given her his whole heart, so he continued the relationship and took care of Nuch’s family. They eventually registered their marriage.
During their time together, he took good care of everyone in the house and opened a shop in the Pak Nam area to earn money for their family. However, Nuch changed over time, becoming cold instead of attentive, and pressuring him to leave the house, leading to frequent arguments despite his financial and emotional investments.
He said he’s now wary of loving Thai women, never expecting that all his investment would leave him with just an old refrigerator. However, he’s not ready to divorce and leave the house. He believed his wife has a mental illness and that if she recovers, he will sign the divorce papers. But he asked for 30 more days. He wanted to warn other foreigners not to invest too much in Thai women, although he loves Thailand very much and wants to continue living there.
Nuchraporn, Radesh’s wife, stated that she asked for a divorce because Radesh often insulted her with vulgar words and showed dislike towards her four children throughout their time together. This led to constant arguments until she couldn’t take it anymore and decided to separate. However, Radesh refuses to sign the divorce papers. She denied having any mental illness as Radesh claims.
The atmosphere at the Samut Prakan City Police Station became chaotic, with both parties shouting at each other loudly until officers had to intervene to prevent a physical altercation. Both parties then signed the daily record, with Radesh not wishing to press charges against two of Nuchraporn’s children with whom he had problems. They agreed not to cause trouble for each other anymore.
Radesh consented to move out of Nuchraporn’s house, while Nuchraporn agreed to give him all their assets except for the house and land.
Later, after Radesh calmed down, he asked reporters to present his story and relay a message to his wife through the media, saying that he still loves Nuch very much. Even if she deceived him, he’s willing to be deceived and won’t sign the divorce papers despite being told it’s over.
