BANGKOK — Art Toys boost Thai toy industry to 20 billion baht ($54.3 million), predominantly small-sized businesses.
Director General of the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, Auramon Supthaveethum, revealed that the Art Toys trend, which involves collectable toys created as artworks by both international and Thai artists, is gaining popularity worldwide.
Despite fluctuating growth in the toy industry over the last five years (2019-2023) due to the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the toy business rapidly recovered once the situation stabilized.
It’s remarkable that small businesses constitute the largest group establishing toy businesses, with 1,024 companies. This demonstrates the potential and opportunities for SMEs in the toy industry, which remains open for small businesses to invest and compete in the market.
Of this number, 804 are selling companies, accounting for 93.7% of the total 1,093 toy businesses. There are 238 manufacturing companies, and 855 are selling companies.
The total registered funds amount to 5,692.21 million baht, divided into 2,909.61 million baht for manufacturing companies and 2,782.60 million baht for selling companies.
The Art Toy industry is considered a great opportunity for Thai business owners due to its fast growth, with a substantial revenue of 19,677.21 million baht in 2023. The toy industry has shown tremendous growth and delivered a profit of 467.62 million baht.
“This aligns with the current situation where we can see that the toy market is bustling with activity both in Thailand and abroad,” she said.
Auramon explained that this trend is driven by the emergence of a consumer group within the toy sector known as ‘Kidults,’ adults who enjoy collecting toys similar to their childhood interests. With strong purchasing power, this group fulfills their childhood desires by collecting art toys, especially limited editions as a future investment. Thailand is currently known as a quality contract manufacturing hub.
Tourist Police at Suvarnabhumi Airport arrested two women for drugging and robbing a German tourist.
SUVARNABHUMI — Tourist Police at Suvarnabhumi Airport arrested two women for drugging and robbing a German tourist. A search of their room revealed numerous drugs including Alprazolam, which is known as a date rape drug.
On June 26, investigators from the Tourist Police Division 3, Tourist Police 1, Tourist Police Bureau at Suvarnabhumi Airport, executed an arrest warrant from the Ratchada Criminal Court to arrest Kritsana, 35, and Suthasinee, 36, at their residence in Bang Bon, Bangkok, on charges of nighttime robbery using a vehicle.
Upon searching their room, police found 132 methamphetamine pills, 3.74 grams of crystal meth, and 14 tablets of Alprazolam, a Schedule II substance similar to what was used to drug the victim. All evidence was collected and sent to the investigating officers at Hua Mak Police Station.
Police Colonel Pongpichet Nilchan, Superintendent of Division 3, Tourist Police 1, stated that the case began when a German male tourist filed a complaint with the Tourist Police at Suvarnabhumi Airport before leaving the country. He reported being drugged and robbed of several items, including cash, credit cards, and a camera, by a transgender woman and her female friend near an entertainment venue in the Sukhumvit area. He had initially reported the incident at Hua Mak Police Station, but there was no progress in the case.
The Tourist Police investigators later found crucial evidence from CCTV footage in the victim’s condominium, showing the two suspects following him into his room. After tracing the suspects’ whereabouts and matching the drug found in the German man’s system (Alprazolam) with evidence, the investigators gathered enough proof to request an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court.
The CCTV footage in the German man’s condominium, showing the two suspects following him into his room.
Both suspects confessed that on the day of the incident, they met the victim near an entertainment venue in Sukhumvit, befriended him, and followed him to his room. They then secretly mixed the drug into his drink, causing him to pass out, and proceeded to rob him. The stolen cash was used for partying and buying drugs, with some items being sold or discarded.
Background checks revealed that Kritsana, the ladyboy suspect, had previous drug-related arrests.
The German tourist thanked the Tourist Police for finally apprehending the suspects.

MAE HONG SON — Conflict in Karenni state intensifies. World major powers supplying arms; fears of large-scale refugee influx into Thailand.
The situation in the state of Karenni in Myanmar, which borders the Thai province of Mae Hong Son, continues to be characterized by ongoing conflicts that resemble a proxy war. In this conflict, foreign mercenaries supported by the United States are fighting against the Myanmar military, which receives weapons from China and Russia.
On June 26, 2024, a senior source from the Karenni Army (KA) revealed the ongoing fighting situation in Karenni State. The source explained that over the past week, Myanmar forces have intensified their efforts to capture parts of Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State (also known as Karenni State), from the Karenni Army (KA) and the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF).
Karenni Army
The Myanmar troops stationed in the area come from various battalions that had previously been defeated. In particular, new types of drones, presumably manufactured in China and Russia, are being used in the conflict.
The Karenni troops have adopted the tactic of splitting into small groups to make it more difficult for the Myanmar drones to attack them. However, there are still 4-5 Myanmar military bases in Loikaw, while 70 percent of the surrounding 16 bases have been captured by the Karenni forces, including areas close to the Thai border. Fighting continues, with the Karenni army using guerrilla tactics to ambush and weaken the Myanmar military.
In addition, the Karenni army had to send troops to clear numerous landmines planted by the Myanmar military in various areas, resulting in several civilian casualties. The Karenni troops have already cleared over 500 landmines in Loikaw.
The Karenni Army has also established a provisional system of governance in the border areas, overseen by the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC). The IEC manages the border checkpoints and has deployed immigration officers at various border points such as Ban Huay Ton Noon in Khun Yuam district and Ban Sao Hin in Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son province.
The Karenni troops’ next target is to advance towards Naypyidaw, the military capital of Myanmar, together with the KNPP/KA, KNDF and PDF in cooperation with the 2nd Brigade of the Karen National Union (KNU). Heavy fighting is reported from Bago, a neighboring town of Naypyidaw. The aim of this action is to distract the Myanmar military from attacking targets in Karenni State by forcing it to defend its capital.
A Thai intelligence source in Mae Hong Son province told Khaosod reporters that the involvement of foreign mercenaries in Karenni state, believed to be backed by the United States, has complicated the situation. The Myanmar government has responded by supplying arms from Russia and China. The conflict is expected to escalate after the rainy season, which could lead to a large influx of refugees into Thailand.
Mr. Oliver, a 51-year-old Swiss national, is arrested at Oliver Twist Hair salon in Moo 4, Ban Tai Subdistrict, Koh Phangan District, Surat Thani Province.
KOH PHANGAN — Swiss hairdresser arrested for operating Oliver Twist salon on Koh Phangan for 9 years with recently expired visa.
On JUne 25, Tourist police officers on Koh Phangan, in collaboration with local administrative officials, arrested Mr. Oliver, a 51-year-old Swiss national, at Oliver Twist Hair salon in Moo 4, Ban Tai Subdistrict, Koh Phangan District, Surat Thani Province. He presented himself as the shop owner and worked as a hairdresser, which is an occupation reserved exclusively for Thai nationals.
Previously, when tourist police received reports of a foreigner working as a hairdresser on Koh Phangan, who allegedly claimed that no police unit dared to arrest him, they conducted further investigations through online channels. They discovered a Facebook page named “Oliver Twist Hair” advertising haircuts and styling services, with text in English stating the shop’s location as “Ko Phangan, Thailand, Surat Thani” and providing a contact number +66 66 010 xxxx.
Oliver Twist Hair’ advertises haircuts and styling services.
The Facebook page featured the message: “Welcome to Oliver Twist Hair Art & Academy. Be our guest or become our student! Trend Cut&Color Highlights Color Correction, everything is possible. WeLoveHair”
The page posted images of various hairstyles, focusing on punk and hard rock styles, by hairdresser Oliver, with appointments available through WhatsApp.
Oliver told officials that he worked as the managing director of Oliver Twist Hair Art & Academy company and as a hairdresser at this shop, which has been operating for 9 years. The minimum price for a haircut is 500 baht, with the maximum being around 4,000 baht.
The arresting officers charged him with “being an alien working beyond permitted rights (as a hairdresser).” Upon checking his visa, they found that he had overstayed his NON-90 visa since September 9, 2023. Officials will proceed with his deportation.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, right, arrives, surrounded by the the media, at the United States courthouse where he is expected enter a plea deal, in Saipan, Mariana Islands, Wednesday, June 26 2024. (AP Photo/Eugene Hoshiko)
SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (AP) — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange pleaded guilty to obtaining and publishing U.S. military secrets in a deal with Justice Department prosecutors that secures his liberty and concludes a drawn-out legal saga that raised divisive questions about press freedom and national security.
The criminal case of international intrigue, which had played out for years in major world stages of Washington and London, came to a surprise end in a most unusual setting with Assange entering his plea Wednesday morning in federal court in Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands. The American commonwealth in the Pacific is relatively close to Assange’s native Australia and accommodated his desire to avoid entering the continental United States.
The deal required the iconoclastic internet publisher to admit guilt to a single felony count but also permitted him to return to Australia without any time in an American prison. The judge sentenced him to the five years he’d already spent behind bars in the United Kingdom, fighting extradition to the United States on an Espionage Act indictment that could have carried a lengthy prison sentence in the event of a conviction. He was holed up for seven years before that in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
He smiled slightly as U.S. District Judge Ramona Manglona imposed a sentence and pronounced him a “free man.”

The conclusion enables both sides to claim a degree of satisfaction. The Justice Department, facing a defendant who had already served substantial jail time, was able to resolve — without trial — a case that raised thorny legal issues and that might never have reached a jury at all given the plodding pace of the extradition process. Assange, for his part, signaled a begrudging contentment with the resolution, saying in court that though he believed the Espionage Act contradicted the First Amendment, he accepted the consequences of soliciting classified information from sources for publication.
Assange arrived at court in a dark suit, with a tie loosened around the collar, after flying from Britain on a charter plane accompanied by members of his legal team and Australian officials, including the top Australian diplomat in the U.K. The secret-spilling website, which Assange founded in 2006, said in its own statement after the deal was revealed that it was grateful for “all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.”
Inside the courthouse, he answered basic questions from Manglona, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, and appeared to listen intently as terms of the deal were discussed.
He appeared upbeat and relaxed during the hearing, at times cracking jokes with the judge. While signing his plea agreement, he made a joke about the 9-hour time difference between the U.K. and Saipan. At another point, when the judge asked him whether he was satisfied with the plea conditions, Assange responded: “It might depend on the outcome,” sparking some laughter in the courtroom.
“So far, so good,” the judge responded.
The plea deal, disclosed Monday night in a sparsely detailed Justice Department letter, represents the latest — and presumably final — chapter in a court fight involving the eccentric Australian computer expert who has been celebrated by supporters as a transparency crusader but lambasted by national security hawks who insist that his conduct put lives at risks and strayed far beyond the bounds of traditional journalism duties.

The guilty plea resolves a criminal case brought by the Trump administration Justice Department in connection with the receipt and publication of hundreds of thousands of war logs and diplomatic cables that detailed U.S. military wrongdoing in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Prosecutors alleged that he teamed with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to obtain the records, including by conspiring to crack a Defense Department computer password, and published them without regard to American national security. Names of human sources who provided information to U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan were among the details exposed, prosecutors have said.
But his activities drew an outpouring of support from press freedom advocates, who heralded his role in bringing to light military conduct that might otherwise have been concealed from view. Among the files published by WikiLeaks was a video of a 2007 Apache helicopter attack by American forces in Baghdad that killed 11 people, including two Reuters journalists.
The indictment was unsealed in 2019, but Assange’s legal woes long predated the criminal case and continued well past it.
Weeks after the release of the largest document cache in 2010, a Swedish prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for Assange based on one woman’s allegation of rape and another’s allegation of molestation. Assange has long maintained his innocence, and the investigation was later dropped.
He presented himself in 2012 to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he claimed asylum on the grounds of political persecution, and spent the following seven years in self-exile there, welcoming a parade of celebrity visitors and making periodic appearances from the building’s balcony to address supporters.
In 2019, his hosts revoked his asylum, allowing British police to arrest him. He remained locked up for the last five years while the Justice Department sought to extradite him, in a process that encountered skepticism from British judges who worried about how Assange would be treated by the American criminal justice system.
Ultimately, though, the resolution sparing Assange prison time in the U.S. contradicts years of ominous warnings by Assange and his supporters that the American criminal justice system would expose him to unduly harsh treatment, including potentially the death penalty — something prosecutors never sought.
Last month, Assange won the right to appeal an extradition order after his lawyers argued that the U.S. government provided “blatantly inadequate” assurances that he would have the same free speech protections as an American citizen if extradited from Britain.
His wife, Stella Assange, told the BBC from Australia that it had been “touch and go” over 72 hours whether the deal would go ahead but she felt “elated” at the news. A lawyer who married the WikiLeaks founder in prison in 2022, she said details of the agreement would be made public once the judge had signed off on it.
“He will be a free man once it is signed off by a judge,” she said, adding that she still didn’t think it was real.
Assange on Monday left the London prison, where he has spent the last five years, after being granted bail during a secret hearing last week. He boarded a plane that landed hours later in Bangkok to refuel before taking off again toward Saipan. A video posted by WikiLeaks on X, showed Assange staring intently out the window at the blue sky as the plane headed toward the island.
“Imagine. From over 5 years in a small cell in a maximum security prison. Nearly 14 years detained in the U.K. To this,” WikiLeaks wrote.
KUBOTA x GREYHOUND ORIGINAL PRESENT "Turn Waste to Agri-Wear

Pitsanu said that global warming and PM2.5 dust problems mainly come from burning, especially in the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, Siam Kubota, which develops agricultural machinery technology and innovation, places importance on sustainability and seeks ways to manage agricultural waste to create added value.
“Rice, in particular, is the country’s main economic crop, covering the largest cultivation area of 65 million rai, or 20% of Thailand’s total area. This results in a large amount of rice straw, which is agricultural waste, causing impacts from management by burning methods.”

Pakin Penparakul, Chief Executive Officer of Mud and Hound Public Company Limited, the producer of Greyhound fashion products, said that currently, the company designs and produces fashion products under the GREEN LABEL, using recycled textiles from plastic and fabric scraps from production, accounting for 10% of their products.

BANGKOK— Thailand and the EU will hold the 4th round of FTA negotiations in Bangkok this November, while the Thai government sees this as a top priority policy after observing the growing trend of exports to the EU.
For the first five months of January to May 2024, the total bilateral trade volume reached USD 17,985.21 million, up by 1.58% from the previous year’s period. Thai exports to the EU were USD 9,821.81 million, increasing by 3.75%, whereas imports from the EU were USD 8,163.40 million, decreasing by 0.92%.
Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Chotima Iamsawatikul, revealed the results of the third round of negotiations for the Thailand-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
This round included meetings at the chief negotiator level and sub-group meetings of experts across all 20 groups.
Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Chotima Iamsawatikul, attended the third round of negotiations for the Thailand-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The negotiations are generally positive, with progress made in all sub-groups due to thorough preparation by both parties. Each group has established specific steps, including exchanging information and opinions, as well as conducting discussions between rounds to maximize progress for the next negotiation round.
In November, Thailand will host the fourth round of negotiations in Bangkok.
The department intends to invite stakeholders to participate in the meetings to stay updated on the progress and engage in detailed discussions about the ongoing negotiations.
In addition, the Ministry of Commerce has emphasized negotiations on the FTA with the EU as a top priority policy of the government. This initiative will improve Thailand’s trade opportunities in the large and high-purchasing European market and attract investments from the EU and other countries looking to capitalize on European exports. Both private sectors from Thailand and the EU have been actively observing and pushing for these negotiations.
However, new issues remain regarding state procurement, state-owned enterprises, competition, sustainable development, energy, and raw materials. Thai negotiation teams from various agencies are prepared to move forward in order to find balanced and beneficial conclusions for the Thai economy.
In 2023, the EU ranked as Thailand’s fifth largest trading partner, following ASEAN, China, the United States, and Japan. The trade between Thailand and the EU reached a total of USD 41,582.24 million, indicating a 1.43% increase compared to the previous year.
Thai exports to the EU amounted to USD 21,838.37 million, showing a decrease of 4.21%, while imports from the EU were worth USD 19,743.87 million, representing an increase of 8.50%.
Foreign tourists violently punch and kick a person of the same nationality, causing injuries, in front of local residents and tourists in Central Pattaya on June 25, 2024.
PATTAYA — On Tuesday afternoon, a Khaosod news reporter in Pattaya drove by and witnessed foreign tourists violently punching and kicking a person of the same nationality, causing injuries, in front of local residents and tourists.
The incident occurred in front of a food-to-order restaurant on South Pattaya Road. As the situation escalated and seemed to be getting out of hand, the reporter quickly intervened to stop the fight while recording evidence. This caused the attackers to flee into the bushes near the restaurant.
The reporter then called the police, who managed to arrest one suspect, identified as Vietnamese. Other suspects disappeared near a shopping mall parking lot.
Mr. Xuan Hai Ngo, 38, the injured Vietnamese victim, explained that the two men who attacked him were his debtors. They had arranged to meet him to settle their outstanding debt. He and his friend had rented a room across from the restaurant and were waiting at the food-to-order restaurant next to a Vietnamese restaurant.
The debtors arrived in a Ford car with four people. They sat down to negotiate at a table in front of the food-to-order restaurant. But after just a few words, Mr. Xuan was put in a headlock, punched in the face, and beaten until he staggered onto the street. The group of debtors followed and continued to kick him. Fortunately, someone came to help. He believes this group of debtors planned to lure him there to attack him. He is now very scared.
Police officers searched the debtors’ Ford car and found many weapons including knives, metal objects, and wooden sticks on the back seat. These were confiscated for investigation. The police will expedite the pursuit of this Vietnamese mafia gang to prosecute them according to the law.”
