Last year’s Carabao held Carabao-Chelsea Coach the Coaches, a coach education workshop to local football coaches in Thailand. The workshop, aiming at enhancing coaching skillset for Thai trainers at youth levels, was instructed by the highly-skilled coaching staff from Chelsea Football Club with 21-year experience in 31 countries in 6 continents. After the success of last year’s campaign, this year Carabao has launched the Carabao Grassroots Football to support the local communities that are in need of the sport equipment. There have been a number of schools in the provinces receiving such supports. The latest effort saw Chelsea’s Bangkok-based football development officer Mr. Laurence Griffin organized and led football clinics for students and teachers at two schools in Chacheongsao provinces – Pimpawas and Theparajawittayakaan schools.
Mr. Kamoldist Smuthkochorn, Deputy Managing Director (Marketing), said that the past campaign Carabao-Chelsea Coach the Coaches had gain a good momentum after the participants passed the coach skillset to others. As for this year, Carabao Group has introduced Carabao Grassroots Football in order to increase opportunities of the skill development among youngsters through local schools nationwide. There have been requests from many schools that lack equipment and coaches, underlining the demand and overwhelming interests in football among the children. As a partner with Chelsea football club, Carabao Group in collaboration with the leading English Premiere League team have organized “football clinics” to train and inspire the youth in the selected schools so that they could rise up to the professional level in the future.
Mr. Laurence Griffin, Chelsea’s Bangkok-based football development officer, added that: “Chelsea is determined to continue providing a platform to support the development of football in Thailand’s local areas, and we’re more willing to join hands with our major partner Carabao. Our staff at Chelsea FC Bangkok school have joined the trips to visit schools to deliver the sport equipment and teach football skills to the young children to upskill the game in all levels.
“We’re pleased to share our knowledge and understanding of the game to the youth in Thailand, and to join Carabao in football-related projects for the communities. The kids will have the opportunity to receive an experience in training with Chelsea FC. This year’s campaign is a great follow-up for the successful “Carabao – Chelsea Coach the Coaches” and we hope to be part of driving force to help improve the game in Thailand to the international level.”
