Thai-Chinese Education Alliance: KMUTNB, Yunnan College Unite

King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) and Yunnan Modern Vocational Technology College (YMVTC), China, formalized their strategic partnership through the signing of a letter of intent for cooperation to promote the educational quality in the fields of modern electric vehicle and automation system, to develop the joint research projects and curriculums, to provide training for lecturers and students with an aim to enhance their knowledge, cultural and language competencies. The signing of this letter of intent for cooperation marks the shared vision between KMUTNB and YMVTC to promote their graduates’ expertise and professional skills in the areas of modern electric vehicle and automation system that addresses the increasing demands of the rapidly changing industrial sector.

On 14 December 2024, at Ratchaphruek Meeting Room, Navamindra Rajini Building, KMUTNB, the LOI signing ceremony was held with the presence of the executive teams from both institutions. The delegates from Yunnan Modern Vocational Technology College was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Teravuti Boonyasopon, Chairman of the KMUTNB Council Committee, Asst. Prof. Preecha Ong-aree, Director of KMUTNB Techno Park, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somnoek Wisuttipaet, Vice President for Academic Services Development and Industrial Relations, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarawut Suebyaem, Assistant to the President for Finance and General Affairs. Representing KMUTNB to sign the Letter of Intent for Cooperation (LIC) was Prof. Saowanit Sukparungsee, Vice President for Academic Affairs, while the YMVTC side was represented by Dr. Zhou Gang, Dean of the Yunnan Modern Vocational Technology College.

KMUTNB and YMVTC aim to develop the cooperative activities, such as the development of curriculum and joint research cooperation in the fields of modern electric vehicle and automation system, the short-term and long-term mobility programs for lecturers and students, the co-organizing of training programs. Also, the YMVTC delegation visited key laboratories and research facilities in KMUTNB, including the Rail Technology and Innovation Center at KMUTNB Techno Park, TFII-Schneider Electric Center of Excellence at Thai-French Innovation Institute, Clear Room at Faculty of Applied Science, Modern Vehicle and Automation System Laboratory at College of Industrial Technology. This groundbreaking academic partnership will be based on the principle of mutual benefit and resource sharing, while it will also part to promote the bilateral academic relations between Thailand and China.

KMUTNB is one among leading Thai universities in Science, Technology and Innovation. The university prioritizes the adoption of the practice-based learning model to ensure that its graduates will be proficient at working in a professional setting in different fields related to the creation of invention and innovation, such as Rail technologies. Similarly, the Yunnan Modern Vocational Technology College is a distinguished vocational institution with a reputation in the field of technology. The plans for future cooperation between KMUTNB and YMVTC are as follows: 1) The organizing of the training program for students by the two institutions in collaboration with BYD Co., Ltd. This curriculum aimed at promoting the expertise in Modern Electric Vehicle and Automation System will be delivered in English at KMUTNB Techno Park in Map Ta Phut District, Rayong Province. This project originates from the cooperation between KMUTNB, BYD Co., Ltd. and FXB Co., Ltd. with their shared goal to develop the manpower for the electric vehicle and modern automation system industries. 2) The organizing of training programs for lecturers which will enable them to exchange ideas, teaching experiences, and work collectively to for the improvement of research and teaching quality, the curriculum development, the adoption of educational technology and information technology. The trans-border cooperation between KMUTNB and YMVTC will integrate the strength of each side to tackle the pressing demands from the industrial sector in the today’s rapidly evolving world.

The training base will be established at KMUTNB Techno Park in Map Ta Phut District, Rayong Province. With the mutual mission to promote the training and internship opportunities for the students, this training centre will enable the students to develop their practical skills and to gain hand on experiences related to the fields of Electric Vehicle and Automation System.

The KMUTNB – YMVTC strategic partnership reflects the dedication and commitment of the two institutions to integrate their expertise into the development of human resource, the enhancement of research and education quality on the basis of resource sharing, as well as idea and experience exchange.
