
BANGKOK — Two Thai students from Shrewsbury International School Bangkok claimed gold medals at the prestigious 20th Asian Chemical Congress (20 ACC), also known as ASIACHEM2025, held at Berkeley Hotel Pratunam from June 23-27, 2025.
Arin Thongtang (In), a Year 12 student, and Arisa Thongtang (Aim), a Year 11 student, won the top honor for their research titled “Living Carbonomics: Tracking Footprint and Storage Dynamics Above and Below Ground.” The award ceremony was presided over by Education Minister Police General Permpoon Chidchob on Thursday, June 26.
The international academic conference was hosted by the Chemical Society of Thailand in collaboration with Kasetsart University, under authorization from the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies (FACS). Professor Dr. Supha Harnongbua served as chairman of the organizing committee.
This year’s congress focused on the theme “Responsible Chemical Sciences for World Sustainability,” emphasizing the chemical science community’s responsibility toward global sustainability. The event brought together participants from across Asia and around the world to discuss various chemistry disciplines and showcase expertise from the global chemistry network.
The 20th Asian Chemical Congress represents a significant platform for advancing chemical sciences and promoting international collaboration in addressing global sustainability challenges. The participation and success of young Thai students demonstrates the country’s growing prominence in scientific research and education.
The five-day conference covered comprehensive chemistry subjects with special content reflecting the expertise of chemistry networks worldwide, making it a premier gathering for chemical scientists across all regions.
