BANGKOK — Organizers of a concert by Texan multi-instrumentalist My Empty Phantom canceled the event two days before it was due to take place.

Playing Drum ‘n Bass music in Bangkok in the ‘90s, I felt like a leper. No one wanted anything to do with the music. But with the frantic breakbeats and dark heavy bass of Jungle, or what was to be later called Drum ‘n Bass, or dnb, to me it was punk music for Generation Rave. Most importantly, it didn’t compromise.

Speaking English in a husky drawl somewhere between his native Kentucky and Malibu beach, Jaree is a mass of contradictions happily occupying one loud shirt at a time. His mop of long hair and slacker aesthetic belie a technical perfectionist who hovers over every knob, slider and setting in his studio to get it all just right.

BANGKOK — While the place makes sense at night, it’s unclear what to do on RCA when the sun is out. Those waiting for showtimes at House RCA have had little more to do than eat 25-baht omelettes or wander around Tops Supermarket.
