Waterspout hits Trang as rough seas force fishing boats ashore

TRANG — 27 October 2026, A waterspout formed over the Andaman Sea off Trang province as severe weather brought strong winds and high waves, forcing hundreds of fishing boats to shelter along the coast and prompting authorities to temporarily close the popular Emerald Cave to tourists.

The unsettled conditions were reported on 27 October in Hat Samran district, where coastal fishing boats returned to shore but continued to face strong winds and waves pounding the coastline. Some boat owners moved their vessels into smaller canals to protect them from damage.

Other coastal districts in Trang were also experiencing rough seas and strong winds.

The Trang office of the Marine Department issued a warning that waves in the Andaman Sea could exceed two metres, particularly in areas affected by thunderstorms. Boat operators were urged to navigate with caution and avoid areas experiencing thunderstorms and strong gusts.

Small boats less than six metres long were advised to remain ashore and avoid venturing into open water from 25 to 28 October.

Meanwhile, Hat Chao Mai National Park announced the temporary closure of Emerald Cave, one of Trang’s best-known tourist attractions, from 27 to 28 October because of the rough marine conditions.

The closures and warnings are intended to reduce risks to boat operators, residents and tourists while the weather remains unsettled.
