BANGKOK — The Metropolitan Electricity Authority reported power outages over wide swaths of Bangkok on Friday afternoon.

The area affected include much of eastern Bangkok, such as some parts of Pu Chao Saming Phrai, Lat Phrao and Phahonyothin Roads, according to a statement from the agency.

Blackouts were also reported in Ramkhamhaeng, Ram Intra and Keha Romklao roads.

A downtown stretch along Sukhumvit Road is also without electricity. A call center staff member said officials have reported blackout in the Khlong Toei area, which could be caused by a fallen tree branch on electric wires on At Narong Road.

She said local authorities are working to restore electricity within the next several hours.

The blackout followed a rainstorm that blanketed much of Bangkok earlier today.
