Austrian man rushed to hospital after experiencing severe abdominal pain on June 11, 2025. A CT scan revealed multiple round objects inside the intestines, resembling narcotics.
BANGKOK — An Austrian man experiencing severe abdominal pain from Don Mueang Airport was rushed to hospital, where doctors were shocked to discover 255 methamphetamine pills packed in his stomach. Medical staff suspect the drug packets ruptured after he swallowed them.
The incident occurred when Hua Mak Police Station officers received a report to investigate a foreign patient experiencing seizures and convulsions with suspicious items at the emergency room of Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, Suan Luang District, Bangkok, at 1:00 AM on June 11.
Hospital staff at the emergency room entrance reported that the hospital had received an emergency patient from Don Mueang Airport after being notified of a foreign national experiencing seizures and convulsions.
Methamphetamine pills, round and flat with “WY” markings in red, totaling 255 pills were found inside a 43-year-old Austrian man.
Medical personnel assessed the patient’s condition before treatment, with doctors discovering pink-colored fluid discharged from the patient’s rectum. A CT scan revealed multiple round objects inside the intestines, with one such object having been expelled through the rectum, resembling narcotics.
Doctors then notified police for investigation. Results showed the substances were Category 1 narcotics – methamphetamine pills, round and flat with “WY” markings in red, totaling 255 pills found inside 43-year-old Wolfgang, an Austrian national.
While officers were seizing evidence, Wolfgang remained unconscious and awaiting surgery from hospital doctors, as it is suspected the drug packets ruptured in his stomach, causing his critical condition. Investigation officers have forwarded the initial evidence to Hua Mak Police Station investigators to pursue legal proceedings.

Dr. Air sits in a detention vehicle after being charged with illegal drug distribution and conspiracy, heading to Ratchada Criminal Court for remand on June 11, 2025.
BANGKOK — A prominent Thai celebrity who worked as both a doctor and police officer has been arrested for illegally trafficking date rape drugs, authorities announced Wednesday.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Anchuli Theerawongpaisal, 46, known publicly as “Dr. Air,” was among seven people arrested Tuesday in connection with an illegal operation selling controlled substances used as date rape drugs.
Shocking Discovery
The investigation began when Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials detected unusual purchasing patterns for Flunitrazepam, a prescription sleep medication that requires doctor authorization. The drug, classified as a Category 2 and 4 controlled substance, can be used to sedate victims for sexual assault.
Dr. Air was found to have purchased large quantities of the medication alone, using the names of 12 medical clinics in Bangkok for the orders.
“When the FDA reported these irregularities to police, we launched an investigation and discovered Dr. Air and her associates were storing these drugs in private rooms with guards before distributing them to network members across different areas,” said Police Major General Nopasit Mitrapakdee, Commander of the Narcotics Suppression Division 1.
Dr. Air – Pol. Lt. Col. Anchuli Theerawongpaisal is escorted to detention vehicle after being charged with illegal drug distribution and conspiracy, heading to Ratchada Criminal Court for remand on June 11, 2025.
Massive Financial Operation
Records show Dr. Air’s drug purchases escalated dramatically:
2022: 1 million baht ($30,680) worth of drugs
2023: 4 million baht ($122,715)
2024: 11 million baht ($337,460)
2025: Already 7-8 million baht despite incomplete year, using 12 clinic names
Financial investigations revealed approximately 80 million baht ($2.45 million) in transaction flows connected to the operation.
Using Names of the Dead
Deputy Health Minister Dr. Thanakrit Jitareerat revealed a disturbing discovery: Dr. Air had been using the names of 370 deceased individuals from as far back as 1998 to claim drug withdrawals from clinics.
“Our investigation over the past two months found 370 names of deceased people being used in this scheme,” he said.

Seven Arrested
Initial arrest warrants were issued June 10 for five suspects: Pol. Lt. Col. Anchuli Theerawongpaisal, Operation leader and drug procurer; Duriyalak Upchai, Drug guard and distributor in Wang Thonglang area; Nattapat Thirachot, Bangkok area distributor; Pakorn Chantep, Bangkok area distributor; and Orachun Chantanam, Bangkok area distributor.
Two additional suspects, Patchara and Patcharamon, were later arrested in Nakhon Pathom Province for possession of controlled substances.
Evidence Seized
Authorities confiscated 170,400 pills of various controlled substances including Alprazolam, Zolpidem tartrate, Flunitrazepam, Clonazepam, and Clorazepate.
All suspects face charges of conspiracy to distribute Category 2 controlled substances without authorization for commercial purposes and conspiracy to commit serious drug-related offenses.
Dr. Air once served as deputy spokesperson for the National Police Office, handling public relations and providing information about police operations.
Fall from Grace
Dr. Air was a well-known celebrity police doctor specializing in child and adolescent mental health treatment at Police Hospital. She previously served as deputy spokesperson for the National Police Office, handling public relations and providing information about police operations.
She also owned The Air Clinic, a dermatology clinic offering health and personality consultations.
Her reputation was previously tarnished in 2019 when she controversially encouraged mothers to give birth in the United States for American citizenship, and she faced defamation charges in 2017 involving a high-society woman.
Official Response
The Narcotics Suppression Command is expediting procedures to dismiss Dr. Air from government service through Police Hospital, with final approval from the National Police Commissioner. The Ministry of Public Health has also recommended the Medical Council consider disciplinary action.
The case highlights concerns about prescription drug abuse and the misuse of medical authority for illegal drug trafficking operations.
Chinese suspect uses Toyota Alphard to run illegal tour operation, acting as driver and guide.
BANGKOK — Tourist police have arrested a Chinese national operating unauthorized luxury tours around Bangkok’s historic Rattanakosin Island, officials announced today.
The 25-year-old suspect, identified only as Mr. Ling, was caught running high-end tours using a Toyota Alphard luxury vehicle while serving as both driver and guide. He marketed his services through online platforms, offering exclusive dining experiences and private transportation to Chinese tourists.
The arrest comes as part of a broader crackdown ordered by Police Commissioner-General Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet targeting foreigners working illegally in occupations reserved for Thai nationals, particularly tour guiding and tour operations.
Infographic shows Chinese suspect providing VVIP services without proper permits, leading to arrest by tourist police.
Tourist Police Bureau investigators spent weeks monitoring the suspect’s activities through undercover surveillance and Chinese social media platforms. Officers observed him driving convoys of three luxury vehicles, escorting Chinese tourists to major attractions including the Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and Tha Chang Pier.
“Through careful monitoring of key tourist areas, we gathered conclusive evidence of violations,” said Pol. Col. Man Rodthong, Superintendent of the Investigation Subdivision.
The arrest was made near Tha Chang Pier on Maharaj Road after police confirmed the suspect’s involvement in unauthorized tour operations.
Mr. Ling, who entered Thailand on an Elite Visa, faces two major charges: operating a tour business without proper licensing under the Tourism Business and Guide Act, and working without a valid work permit in violation of the Alien Working Act. The suspect has been transferred to Chanasongkram Police Station for legal proceedings.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra addresses the media after the cabinet meeting on June 10, 2025, reaffirming her commitment to resolving border issues with Cambodia through negotiations on a case-by-case basis.
BANGKOK — Thai Prime Minister said Tuesday that direct conversations with Cambodian leaders Hun Manet and Hun Sen helped peacefully resolve recent border tensions. She dismissed protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul’s threats of military intervention while promising to separately review controversial border agreements with Cambodia.
PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra addressed the media on June 10 following the weekly cabinet meeting at Government House, providing an update on the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. She said that the government had made every effort over the past week to reduce tensions and resolve the conflict through a coordinated multi-agency approach, with largely peaceful and orderly results. She thanked all those involved in the negotiation process.
At the policy level, security agencies and the military in the area coordinated bilateral cooperation under international law and mutual frameworks. She emphasized that all agencies from both Thailand and Cambodia had been in communication and that there would be no war.
High-Level Diplomatic Talks
“I personally spoke with the Cambodian prime minister, Gen. Hun Manet, and Samdech Hun Sen, the president of the Privy Council and the Senate, to coordinate and negotiate to uphold national sovereignty and prioritise the interests of the people,” Paetongtarn said. “The result was that we managed to negotiate peacefully and avoid violent clashes”
Asked if she held any “trump cards” in the negotiations with the Cambodian leadership that led to the decision to reduce the troop presence, the prime minister smiled and said she had simply approached the talks with sincerity.
The Royal Thai Army released photos of Thai military personnel from the Suranaree Task Force traveling to negotiate with Cambodian soldiers to discuss matters regarding the territorial encroachment issue in Chong Bok area on June 8, 2025, with both sides agreeing to reduce confrontations.
She emphasised that both countries were honest with each other and no one wanted the people of either country to be in conflict. Both countries want peace so that they can focus on moving the economy forward instead.
At the local level, Thai security authorities and military units had held several talks with Cambodian military leaders. The talks went smoothly, she said, as both sides were already familiar with each other.
“Samdech Hun Sen sent senior commanders and General Nyek Bun Chhay, the former deputy prime minister, to help coordinate the response, inspect disputed areas and report back to him. This led to a better mutual understanding and a normalisation of troop levels in the disputed zone, while troops in other areas remained unchanged,” Paetongtarn said.
JBC Meeting Confirmed
The Foreign Ministry reiterated that the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting will take place on 14 June, with confirmations expected from both countries. As for Cambodia’s desire to take the case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Thailand reiterated that it does not recognise the court’s jurisdiction.
Thai Army Chief Gen. Pana Claewplodtook (right) and Cambodian counterpart Gen. Mao Sophan co-chair a meeting to de-escalate tensions between the two countries at 2nd Unit Area Thai-Cambodia Border Coordination on May 29, 2025.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pursued the matter through diplomatic channels, which it described as a sound and internationally recognised practice that has always yielded good results.
“Some aspects of this matter cannot be made public because we must respect the confidentiality of the negotiations between the two nations. This is a necessary part of the process,” she added.
Treat Each Matter Separately
Responding to protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul’s demand to cancel the 2001 MOU 44 on maritime disputes, in addition to his call to cancel MOU 43 on land border demarcation agreements, the prime minister said the government would consider each issue individually.
“We must treat each matter separately, as we have assured Cambodia. Mixing everything together makes things unclear. We will tackle the unresolved issues one by one. The government will make sure that all aspects are thoroughly examined,” she concluded.

Sondhi’s Threats
Sondhi, who previously led protests calling for military intervention against Thaksin Shinawatra’s government in 2006 and supported the coup against Yingluck Shinawatra’s government in 2014, threatened the third Shinawatra prime minister, warning that if the JBC meeting fails to resolve the disputes, they would call for the military to declare martial law to deal with Cambodia and “Thai traitors.”
“I believe the Thai people will certainly join me. Therefore, I want to tell Ms. Paetongtarn and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai that history is about to repeat itself,” Sondhi said.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel deported activist Greta Thunberg on Tuesday, the country’s Foreign Ministry said, a day after the Gaza-bound ship she was on was seized by the Israeli military.
Thunberg left on a flight to France and was then headed to her home country of Sweden, the Foreign Ministry said in a post on X. It posted a photo of Thunberg, a climate activist who shuns air travel, seated on a plane.
Speaking upon arrival at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, Thunberg called for the release of the other activists who were detained aboard the Freedom Flotilla. She described a “quite chaotic and uncertain” situation during the detention.
She said the conditions they faced “are absolutely nothing compared to what people are going through in Palestine and especially Gaza right now.”
Thunberg calls on supporters to mobilize
“We were well aware of the risks of this mission,” Thunberg said from the Paris airport. “The aim was to get to Gaza and to be able to distribute the aid.” She said the activists would continue trying to get aid to Gaza.
Thunberg said it appears she is headed back to Sweden, hasn’t had access to a phone in a few days, and wants a shower. The activists were held separately and some had trouble accessing lawyers, she added. Asked why she agreed to deportation, she said, “Why would I want to stay in an Israeli prison more than necessary?”
Thunberg called on supporters to ask their governments to mobilize “to demand not only humanitarian aid being let into Gaza but most importantly an end to the occupation and an end to the systemic oppression and violence that Palestinians are facing on an everyday basis.”
She said recognizing Palestine is “the very, very, very minimum” that governments can do to help.

She was escorted by police out of the terminal, carrying no bags, as a few supporters applauded.
Thunberg was one of 12 passengers on the Madleen, a ship carrying aid to Gaza that was meant to protest Israel’s ongoing war there and shed light on the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the group behind the journey.
Israeli naval forces seized the boat without incident early Monday about 200 kilometers (125 miles) off of Gaza’s coast, according to the coalition, which along with rights groups, said Israel’s actions were a violation of international law. Israel rejects that charge because it says such ships intend to breach what it argues is a lawful naval blockade of Gaza.
The boat, accompanied by Israel’s navy, arrived in the Israeli port of Ashdod Monday evening.
Other activists face deportation
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said three activists, including Thunberg, had been deported along with a journalist. It said it had encouraged some of the group to do this so they could speak freely about their experiences.
Eight other passengers refused deportation and were being held in detention before their case is to be heard by Israeli authorities. Adalah, a legal rights group in Israel representing the activists, said the eight were expected to be brought before a court later Tuesday.
“Their detention is unlawful, politically motivated and a direct violation of international law,” the coalition said in a statement. It called for the remaining passengers to be released without deportation and said their lawyers would demand that they be allowed to complete their journey to Gaza.

Sabine Haddad, a spokeswoman for Israel’s Interior Ministry, said the activists who were being deported Tuesday had waived their right to appear before a judge. Those who did not will face one and will be held for 96 hours before being deported, she said.
Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament who is of Palestinian descent, was also among the passengers on board the Madleen. She has previously been barred from entering Israel because of her opposition to Israeli policies toward the Palestinians. It was not clear whether she was being immediately deported or detained.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Tuesday that one of the detained French activists signed an expulsion order and will leave Israel on Tuesday for France. The other five refused. He said all the activists received consular visits.
Sergio Toribio, a Spanish activist who was deported, slammed Israel’s actions after he arrived in Barcelona.
“It is unforgivable, it is a violation of our rights. It is a pirate attack in international waters,” he told reporters.
Questions over a breach of international law
On Monday, Adalah, the rights group, said that Israel had “no legal authority” to take over the ship, because the group said it was in international waters and it was headed not to Israel but to the “territorial waters of the state of Palestine.”
“The arrest of the unarmed activists, who operated in a civilian manner to provide humanitarian aid, amounts to a serious breach of international law,” Adalah said in a statement.
Amnesty International said Israel was flouting international law with the naval raid and called on Israel to release the activists immediately and unconditionally.
Israel said its actions were consistent with international law.
Israel viewed the ship as a publicity stunt, calling it the “selfie yacht” with a “meager” amount of aid that amounted to less than a truckload.
“This was nothing but a ridiculous gimmick. A publicity stunt and nothing more,” said Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. “In any case — it is our intention to deliver to Gaza the tiny amount of aid on the yacht that they did not consume.”

A longstanding blockade of Gaza
Israel and Egypt have imposed varying degrees of a blockade on Gaza since Hamas seized power from rival Palestinian forces in 2007. Israel says the blockade is needed to prevent Hamas from importing arms, while critics say it amounts to collective punishment of Gaza’s Palestinian population.
During the 20-month-long war in Gaza, Israel has restricted and sometimes blocked all aid into the territory, including food, fuel and medicine. Experts say that policy has pushed Gaza toward famine. Israel says Hamas siphons off the aid to bolster its rule.
Hamas-led militants killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in the Oct. 7 attack that ignited the war and took 251 hostages, most of whom have since been released in ceasefire agreements or other deals. Hamas is still holding 55 hostages, more than half of them believed to be dead.
Israel’s military campaign has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which doesn’t distinguish between civilians and combatants but has said that women and children make up most of the dead.
The war has destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90% of the territory’s population, leaving people there almost completely dependent on international aid.
Indian tourist who reported being deceived and robbed by transgender women leads reporters to the scene of the incident on Pattaya Beach Road on June 10, 2025.
PATTAYA — An Indian tourist filed a police report in the early morning hours of June 10 at 4:00 a.m., claiming he was robbed by two transgender women who worked together to steal money from his hotel room.
Mr. Sachin told police he encountered two transgender women near Pattaya Beach late at night, who then accompanied him to his hotel room in a Pattaya side street. One of the women invited him to shower together while the other waited on the bed outside the bathroom, which he believes was part of a premeditated plan.
Indian tourist who reported being deceived and robbed by transgender women leads reporters to the scene of the incident on Pattaya Beach Road on June 10, 2025.
When he emerged from the bathroom, Mr. Sachin noticed his wallet was not in its original position. Upon inspection, he discovered that a significant amount of money was missing: 600 euros (approximately 22,300 Thai baht or $685 USD) and 50,000 Indian rupees (approximately 19,000 Thai baht or $584 USD).
When he confronted the transgender woman who had been waiting on the bed, she deflected his questions before opening the door and fleeing. He attempted to chase after her, but the other woman tried to hold him back and distract him by suggesting he might have misplaced the money elsewhere.
Taking advantage of his momentary confusion, she also escaped and joined her accomplice in a waiting vehicle. Both suspects quickly fled the scene.
The heartbroken tourist, visiting Pattaya for the first time, filed his complaint with local authorities. Police are currently investigating and pursuing both suspects in the case.
Architectural rendering of the Siriraj International Medical Institute (Bangpho)
BANGKOK — Siriraj Hospital is forging ahead with its major 17-billion-baht ($520 million) “Bangpho Medical Hub” project in Bangkok, which is currently awaiting Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval. Construction is expected to be completed within five years, with the aim of attracting international patients.
The fees will be similar to those of Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital. All profits will be ploughed back into the running of the original Siriraj Hospital.
Professor Dr.Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University, told Prachachat Business that the Siriraj International Medical Institute (Bangpho), which is currently at the EIA approval stage, is progressing.
Once the approval is received, the contractors will be appointed. It is expected that the design work will be completed by 2025 and the entire project will be finalised by 2031.
The new facility will be a large hospital on land donated by two unnamed donors on the Chao Phraya River. Given Siriraj’s medical expertise, the land will be used to build a new hospital to maximise the benefit to the public.
Foreign Patient Influx Is the Key
Prof. Dr. Apichat pointed out that Thailand can only become a real medical centre if it is able to accept foreign patients. Currently, many migrant workers are being treated under various welfare programmes. In addition, there is a growing demand from foreigners, especially from the US, Europe and all over Asia, travelling to Thailand specifically for medical care that cannot currently be provided by any other public hospital in Thailand.
Professor Dr.Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital
In the initial phase, the institution expects about 10–20% of patients to be foreigners, but Prof. Dr. Apichat emphasised that the institute’s main mission is to serve Thai citizens.
“In the future, international patients will understand that this is a state-run hospital, even if it operates on a private model. They will know that the profits go back into helping many other patients. Siriraj has always served patients from all backgrounds and is currently the largest referral hospital for those using Thailand’s 30-baht health care system,” said Prof. Dr. Apichat.
The institute will not only provide healthcare services, but will also serve as a centre for medical education, research and training of future medical professionals.
Fees will be the same as Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital and every baht of profit will be reinvested in the original Siriraj Hospital.
Siriraj Hospital currently treats around 15,000 patients per day, while Piyamaharajkarun Hospital treats around 2,500 patients. Together with the Golden Jubilee Medical Centre, the Siriraj Centre for Geriatric Medicine in Samut Sakhon and Siriraj H Solutions in the ICS Lifestyle Complex (opposite ICONSIAM), the entire Siriraj system treats around 22,000 patients a day, making it the busiest healthcare network in Thailand.
A project sign for Siriraj International Medical Institute is displayed on construction barriers along Pracharat Road Sai 1 in Bang Sue district, Bangkok.
Projected Timeline and Profitability
Prof. Dr. Apichat explained that the Cabinet has approved a 16.96 billion baht ($518 million) budget for the project. The funding will be split between 11.05 billion baht ($338.6 million) from the state budget – allocated over 2026-2031 – and 5.91 billion baht ($181 million) from Siriraj’s own resources, representing a 65-35 percent split respectively.
The project will require around 3,397 medical staff, who will be gradually recruited through networks with other hospitals across Thailand.
The Siriraj International Medical Institute (Bangpho) will be a large healthcare facility on the Chao Phraya River, accessible by boat and train and located close to the Thai Parliament. The hospital’s high standards are expected to attract both local and international patients and boost the surrounding economy.
The facility will accommodate at least 650,000 outpatient visits and 20,000 inpatient stays per year. It will be a 19-storey building with a total floor space of 150,000 square metres. It will house 442 regular beds, 352 private beds, 90 beds in the intensive care unit, 22 operating theatres and a three-storey underground car park for 800 vehicles.
Although it may take some time for the project to generate strong financial returns, it is expected to be profitable within four to five years of opening if performance follows the current plan.
In comparison, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital only started to generate profits in its fifth or sixth year of operation and is now in its 14th year of operation. It represents a big leap forward as a large number of patients are being treated there.

Distinctive tattoos are part of the evidence police use alongside biometric data verification and facial recognition matches to identify the Mongolian suspect who stole items from various locations in Bangkok, captured on June 9, 2025.
BANGKOK — Thai immigration authorities have successfully apprehended a Mongolian national suspected of orchestrating a theft spree across Bangkok, utilizing cutting-edge facial recognition technology integrated with the national biometric system.
Police Lieutenant General Panumas Boonyaluck, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, announced the arrest alongside Deputy Commissioners Police Major General Prachaya Prasansuk and Police Major General Pannana Nuchanart. The operation was part of intensified efforts to target foreign nationals involved in criminal activities, particularly transnational organized crime.
Targeting High-Value Electronics
