A Cardboard Box From The US Comes With Human Leg Skeletons

CHONBURI – An employee of a material sorting company in Chonburi Province found the skeletons of human legs attached to a cardboard box from the United States.

The Sri Racha Police Station in Sri Racha District, Chonburi Province, was notified that human legs were discovered in skeletal condition, compressed, and affixed to a cardboard box inside the container transported from the United States.

They were discovered in a material sorting area of a company’s duty-free zone in the Ban Thang Tong community, Village No. 8, Bang Phra Subdistrict, Sriracha District, Chonburi Province. Human leg skeletons were like wearing black trainers. They also found pelvic skeleton parts. It is assumed that they are foreigner’s bones.

According to a company employee, on Monday night, when he opened the container, he took a cardboard box and pressed it into the bars. He discovered that such bones existed, glued to a cardboard box. As a result, he notified the officials immediately.

Officials photographed the location where the bones were found and took the bones to be analysed by forensic science to determine whether they were the result of a murder or an accident.

Thailand’s Western Forest Complex Has More Tigers

BANGKOK – The Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation released on December 19 the first photos of two tiger cubs and their mother in Slap Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanchanaburi Province, western Thailand.

Mana Permpool, Director of Wildlife Conservation Division, Regional Office 3 (Ban Pong), announced that the discovery of tiger cubs during the installation of automatic camera traps to track the long-term tiger population in Slap Phra Wildlife Sanctuary shows the potential of the area in terms of prey abundance and the condition of the forest area conducive for tiger reproduction.

Over 420 automatic camera traps have been installed in 7 protected areas of the southern part of the Western Forest Complex (sWEFCOM) to record the population of tigers and other wild cat species, including predators, from early 2023 to date. The area is a large wildlife corridor in a dry evergreen forest and is located near a large river.

Analysis of the data from the automatic camera traps revealed that 3 tigers were photographed, an adult female listed in the tiger database under the code TWT128F, which is the mother tiger, and two cubs (with the codes SLT_Unknown003 and SLT_Unknown004).

Before this event, TWT128F was photographed in August 2023. The same camera trap also photographed an adult male tiger three times with the code HKT270M. This is the first time a cub has been photographed at Slap Phra Wildlife Sanctuary using an automatic camera trap.

Mana said that the tiger population in sWEFCOM is on the rise, especially the tigers that have been photographed for the first time in the area. This is a first step towards the success of efforts to promote this forest as another hope for restoring tiger populations in the future. Six species of wild cats have been studied in sWEFCOM, including tigers, leopards, clouded leopards, marbled cats, fire cats and fishing cats.

The installation of these cameras is part of a project to survey the distribution of wild cat species in the southern part of the Western Forest Complex of Panthera, Southeast Asia and South Asia, in collaboration with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Slap Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanchanaburi Province, and Kasetsart College, Faculty of Forestry.

The rescue team from Tha Yang Hospital used cutting tools to free the two trapped American women from the wreckage at Kilometer 167-600, Moo 3, Tha Yang Subdistrict, Tha Yang District, and urgently take them to Tha Yang Hospital.

Wirawat Sangkham, 49, a resident of Pathum Thani province, the driver of the van, said he was picking up five American tourists from Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport to take them to a hotel in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. He was driving in the middle lane. When he arrived at the scene of the accident, he turned left to overtake the car in front of him. It turned out that a truck with rice combine harvester was parked on the side of the road and the sharp rice hook was sticking out of the body of the truck, causing the front of his car to hit it hard.

BEIJING (AP) — An overnight earthquake killed at least 127 people in a cold and mountainous region in northwestern China, the country’s state media reported Tuesday.

Search and rescue operations were underway in Gansu and neighboring Qinghai provinces. The earthquake left more than 500 people injured, severely damaged houses and roads, and knocked out power and communication lines, according to media reports.

The magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck near the boundary between the two provinces at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers (six miles) just before midnight on Monday, the China Earthquake Networks Center said. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the magnitude at 5.9.

State broadcaster CCTV said 113 were confirmed dead in Gansu and another 536 injured in the province. Fourteen others were killed and 198 injured in Qinghai, in an area north of the epicenter, according to the People’s Daily, the Communist Party’s official mouthpiece.

The earthquake was felt in much of the surrounding area, including Lanzhou, the Gansu provincial capital, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of the epicenter. Photos and videos posted by a student at Lanzhou University showed students hastily leaving a dormitory building and standing outside with long down jackets over their pajamas.

“The earthquake was too intense,” said Wang Xi, the student who posted the images. “My legs went weak, especially when we ran downstairs from the dormitory.”

The quake struck in Gansu’s Jishishan county, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the provincial boundary with Qinghai. The epicenter was about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) southwest of Beijing, the Chinese capital. There were nine aftershocks by 10 a.m., about 10 hours after the initial earthquake, the largest one registering a magnitude of 4.1, a Gansu official said.

The remote and mountainous area is home to several predominantly Muslim ethnic groups and near some Tibetan communities. Geographically, it is in the center of China, though the area is commonly referred to as the northwest, as it is at the northwestern edge of China’s more populated plains.

Tents, folding beds and quilts were being sent to the disaster area, state broadcaster CCTV said. It quoted Chinese leader Xi Jinping as calling for an all-out search and rescue effort to minimize the casualties. The overnight low in the area was minus 15 to minus 9 degrees Celsius (5 to 16 degrees Fahrenheit), the China Meteorological Administration said.

At least 4,000 firefighters, soldiers and police officers were dispatched in the rescue effort, and the People’s Liberation Army Western Theatre set up a command post to direct its work.

Han, the Gansu spokesperson, said the rescue work was proceeding in an orderly manner and asked people to avoid going to the quake-hit areas to prevent traffic jams that could hinder the effort.

A video posted by the Ministry of Emergency Management showed emergency workers in orange uniforms using rods to try to move heavy pieces of what looked like concrete debris at night. Other nighttime videos distributed by state media showed workers lifting out a victim and helping a slightly stumbling person to walk in an area covered with light snow.

The increasing use of dating apps/dating websites has been associated with a decline in self-esteem according to the psychologist study. Bangkok Matching often emphasized that before loving someone else, individuals must first learn to love themselves correctly.

The key to this self-love is having “self-esteem,” defined as having self-respect, accepting oneself in various aspects, recognizing one’s self-worth, and being confident in one’s abilities. Self-esteem encompasses self-respect, decision-making in life and relationships, and serves as a cornerstone for a healthy mental state, predicting success in life through one’s worldview, thinking, and perception.

Individuals with high self-esteem are perceived as confident and capable in various aspects of life. They handle work responsibilities well, manage their relationships effectively, and exude confidence in their abilities.

This confidence shields them from becoming subservient to toxic relationships. This is because individuals with high self-esteem possess the potential for positive thinking, decisive actions, and a proactive approach to life, increasing their likelihood of success compared to those lacking self-respect or confidence in their abilities.

In a research article focusing on the attitudes of the millennial generation in Thailand using dating apps/dating websites conducted by Thammasat University, it was found that some people used dating apps to boost their confidence and fulfill emotional needs.

Bangkok Matching observed that individuals often turn to dating apps to enhance their self-esteem. When initiating conversations and starting relationships through these dating apps, individuals experience a boost in confidence, similar to a self-rating mechanism.

However, tying one’s confidence to the use of dating apps can have consequences. As individuals gain confidence through these dating platforms, it can also be diminished. This is particularly true in apps where people make rapid judgments based on profile pictures or engage in brief conversations.

Some individuals become engrossed in conversations, assuming that the other person is genuinely interested and confident about the connection, only to find them disappearing without a trace. Such experiences lead to waiting, confusion, and ultimately a sense of loss, contributing to self-doubt and a decline in self-esteem.

Main Reasons Online Dating Apps/Dating Websites could Lower Self-esteem:

Continuous External Judgment: The primary reason for a decline in self-esteem is the constant external judgment individuals face when using dating apps. The initial decision to engage with someone is often based on external appearances – profile pictures, introductory videos, and written bios. People make rapid judgments, deciding whether someone is interesting or worth pursuing within seconds. Knowing that one is continuously subjected to such evaluations from a large group can lead individuals to reshape themselves, unintentionally projecting an image that may not align with their true selves.
Comparisons with Others: Even if there were no external judgments, the nature of dating apps encourages constant comparison with others. Seeing attractive profiles or those seemingly leading interesting lives can make individuals feel inadequate. The act of swiping left or right based on these comparisons may lead individuals to question their own worth and position in the dating pool. Comparing oneself to others in the dating app environment can generate negative emotions, contributing to stress, self-doubt, and a diminished sense of self.
Neglecting Self-care for Love: The convenience of dating apps allows individuals to spend extensive amounts of time searching for love. This pursuit may lead them to neglect self-care and well-being. Believing that their profile is acceptable and attractive enough, individuals may forego personal development and self-improvement. The continuous search for external validation through the dating apps might make individuals forget the importance of self-love and personal growth, as genuine love may find its way without the need for constant app-driven searching.
Impact of Rejection: Experiencing rejection, whether it be through lack of responses or being blocked after initiating contact, can significantly impact self-esteem. 15 Suspected Drug Smugglers Killed In Clash With Thai Soldiers Near Myanmar Border

BANGKOK (AP) — Fifteen suspected drug smugglers were killed and about 2 million methamphetamine tablets seized in northern Thailand near the Myanmar border after a shootout with Thai soldiers, Thai officials said.

The clash, which occurred Saturday night, came after the local army received a tip that there would be smuggling activity near the border in Chiang Rai province, said Phanurat Lukboon, acting secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

Officers found a group of about 20 people carrying backpacks in the area, Phanurat said on Sunday. After the officers identified themselves and asked to inspect the bags, the group began shooting at them, he added.

The clash lasted around 15 minutes and the Thai officers were all safe, Phanurat said while on a visit to the site where the incident occurred. He thanked the officers for their help in “preventing these awful things from entering our country and destroying our youth.”

Seventeen backpacks made from fertilizer sacks were found with the suspected smugglers and more than 2 million methamphetamine pills were inside the bags, officials said.

No arrests were made and officials were still working to identify the 15 people killed in the clash and the origin of the drugs, according to the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

On Wednesday, Thailand announced it had seized 50 million methamphetamine tablets in the western province of Kanchanaburi, also near the Myanmar border. It was said to be a record haul of the drug in the country.

Myanmar has historically been Southeast Asia’s main drug production area in part because of lax security measures in border areas where minority ethnic groups have long been fighting for greater autonomy. Some of the powerful ethnic armed groups there have been heavily involved in narcotics production for decades.

A 2021 military takeover in Myanmar that unseated the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi triggered armed resistance nationwide, further destabilizing the country and contributing to an increase in its drug production.

Last week, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime said in its “Southeast Asia Opium Survey 2023” that Myanmar has topped Afghanistan to become the world’s biggest opium producer.

The U.N. drug agency’s June 2023 report on synthetic drugs in East and Southeast Asia warned that the huge trade in methamphetamine and other illegal drugs shows no signs of slowing down.

TOKYO – Japanese TV personality Tetsuko Kuroyanagi’s popular childhood memoir “Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window” is the most published autobiography penned by a single author, Guinness World Records said Monday.

As of the end of September, over 25.1 million copies in total have been published worldwide, with the book translated in over 20 languages and selling over 8 million copies in Japan alone, according to the world-record recognizing authority and Japanese publisher Kodansha Ltd.

“I am glad that readers overseas appear to have embraced it as well,” Kuroyanagi said through Kodansha.

The best-selling book was first published in 1981, and a sequel issued in October has already surpassed the half-million mark. An animated movie of the original book, depicting her unconventional school life during the period around World War II, hit screens across Japan on Dec. 8.

Guinness World Records has also recognized her TV show “Tetsuko no Heya” (Tetsuko’s Room) as having the most TV talk show episodes hosted by the same presenter.
