Thai Camping Site in Songkhla: Donate Pet Food for Free Stay

SONGKHLA — A unique camping site near Ton Pliw Waterfall in Songkhla’s Rattaphum District has become a sanctuary for nearly 400 stray animals, offering free accommodation in exchange for pet food donations amid shortages.

Pornsita Kachinthorn, owner of Phu Sai Tharn Camping, operates the “Mountain Forest Shelter” one kilometer from her main campsite, housing 300 dogs and 100 cats rescued from abandonment and abuse.

Visitors can stay free by donating 20kg of pet food on weekdays or 40kg on weekends.

“The animal shelter is separate from the main camping area where tourists enjoy riverside tents, bungalows, and our restaurant,” Pornsita explains. “Part of our camping revenue goes toward caring for these animals,” Pornsita says.

The campsite, situated near the popular Ton Pliw Waterfall, offers visitors a chance to combine nature tourism with animal welfare. Guests can enjoy the pristine environment while contributing to the care of rescued animals through their stay or direct donations.

Recently, the shelter collaborated with The Hope Songkhla, a local animal welfare organization, to rescue 26 cats that were part of a group of 35 abandoned in Na Thawi district.
