Phayao truck crashes into roadside shelter amid heavy rain

PHAYAO — A 10-wheel truck carrying cement bags lost control on a rain-slick road in Phayao early on 12 August, crashing into a roadside shelter and spilling cement bags across the road.

At 00:50, Pol. Lt. Col. Santi Kabkaew, deputy investigation officer at Mueang Phayao Police Station, was alerted by the Khun Puem rescue team to the crash on a road near Ban San Muen Kaew in Mae Puem subdistrict, Mueang district.

Rescue workers and traffic officers were dispatched to the scene.

They found a Hino 10-wheel truck and trailer, with the truck registered in Lamphun under licence plate 70-2639 and the trailer bearing plate 70-1951.

The truck cab had come to a stop across the road after losing control and crashing into a roadside shelter, which was heavily damaged. The trailer overturned into a roadside ditch, causing a large number of cement bags to spill onto the road and obstruct traffic.

Rescue workers from Mae Puem Municipality and the Khun Puem rescue team helped direct traffic and remove the cement bags from the road to reopen the route to vehicles.

The clean-up operation took place as rain continued to fall.

The truck driver told authorities that he had been transporting cement from Lampang to Chiang Rai. When he reached the accident site, it was raining and the truck lost control before crashing into the roadside shelter.

The trailer then overturned, sending the cement bags spilling across the road.
