PHUKET — Immigration authorities successfully apprehended a Chinese murder suspect at Phuket International Airport who was attempting to flee to Thailand after allegedly killing his uncle.
Police Lieutenant General Choengron Rimpadee, Commander of Immigration Division 2, reported that late on December 13, his division received urgent orders to intercept Quan Guofeng, a Chinese national wanted for murdering his uncle in China. The suspect had boarded Shanghai Airlines flight FM831 from Shanghai to Phuket. Chinese police had requested Thai authorities to deny his entry and facilitate his return to China.
After confirming the details, immigration officers were stationed at the arrival gate to await the flight, which was scheduled to land at 11:15 PM. Working with Shanghai Airlines staff, officers identified the suspect’s seat number and safely detained him separately from other passengers following security protocols.
The suspect was denied entry into Thailand under Section 12(7) of the Immigration Act, which pertains to individuals deemed a threat to society or those subject to arrest warrants from foreign governments. He was placed under custody for deportation back to China to face prosecution.
Lt. Gen. Choengron emphasized that airport immigration maintains strict surveillance measures against foreign fugitives through the APPS system, which connects to Interpol notices across 190 member countries. “We maintain close international coordination to prevent cross-border escapes, especially as we approach the New Year period,” he added.
The arrest demonstrates the effective cooperation between Thai and Chinese law enforcement in preventing Thailand from becoming a haven for international fugitives.
