KRABI — A German chemical engineer was hospitalized in Krabi after experiencing severe hallucinations from consuming DMT mixed with cannabis. The incident occurred on February 17 in the Sai Thai subdistrict of Krabi.
Claude, 37, was found in an agitated state at his single-story house near Na Hua Non Mosque. His Thai wife, Ms. Kan, 33, contacted authorities after he began displaying erratic behavior, believing someone was trying to harm him.
Police and rescue workers from the Miracle of Life Foundation responded to the scene. The situation was tense as Claude initially refused assistance, removing his shirt and shouting about his wealth. After careful negotiation and seeing the restraining equipment carried by officers, he eventually agreed to receive medical treatment.
According to Ms. Kan, her husband, a chemical engineer, had been experimenting with various drug combinations over the past two weeks. He reportedly synthesized DMT (dimethyltryptamine), a hallucinogenic compound, and combined it with cannabis. The mixture included ingredients such as sodium hydroxide, alcohol, and mimosa plant extracts.
“He’s consumed it less than 10 times, but it’s drastically changed his personality,” Ms. Kan explained. “Sometimes he believes Buddha is present with him, other times he tries to climb through windows.”
Police Senior Sergeant Major Teerajet Sommut noted this was Claude’s second drug-induced episode. No injuries were reported, and the suspect cooperated with authorities who transferred him to a medical facility for treatment and rehabilitation.
