At a press conference held on August 29, 2023 at the Federation of Thai Industries building, chaired by Mr. Kriengkrai Thiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Mr. Teerapon Tirawasin, Chairman of FTI’s Environmental Management Industry Club, FTI announced it is organizing and hosting a large-scale exhibition, called the Environmental & Waste Management Expo 2023 (EnwastExpo 2023).

EnwastExpo 2023 will take place at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre, Hall 6, Muang Thong Thani, from 4th October to 6th October 2023.

Designed as an informative and engaging platform for advocating a healthy and safe planet, the event aims to attract a diverse audience of over 10,000 attendees over the 3-day event. Attendees will include government and private support entities, executives from medium to large-sized enterprises, factories, officials and administrators from local organizations, students, academics, and the general public.

Mr. Kriengkrai Thiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), stated that the objective of EnwastExpo 2023 is to address and raise awareness on the issue of increasing amounts of waste, debris and pollution created by human activities.

According to the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), Thailand generated approximately 27 million tons of waste in 2017 of which a significant amount is industrial waste (hazardous and non-hazardous). This translates to about 74,998 tons per day, with each person producing 1.13 kilograms of waste daily.

Therefore, it is important and necessary to have proper waste and environmentally friendly management systems put in place in accordance with BCG guidelines, through the introduction and application of modern waste management and sustainable technology, solutions and practices.

Mr. Kriengkrai Thiennukul said: “Presently, the amount of waste and refuse in Thailand continues to rise, and we need to address these issues urgently. The FTI formed the Environmental Management Industry Club with the aim of advocating environmentally friendly policies, and support and promote sustainable practices across all Thai industries. We are also taking the lead in promoting innovations and modern technology in waste management so as to have the capability to address these environmental issues effectively.”

He added that EnwastExpo 2023’s theme “Join the movement towards a better planet” entails three interconnected components, namely the Source, which identifies the source of pollutants and waste, the Destination, which is the waste management and disposal process and the associated technology and investments needed, and lastly the Journey, which relies on government policies and guidelines to create a balanced and sustainable environment.

Mr. Teerapong Plurawasin, Chairman of FTI’s Environmental Management Industry Club, said: “For EnwastExpo 2023, FTI is collaborating with various government and private-sector organizations to put on this event.

FTI is also pushing for the adoption of new technology in waste management and sustainability across all sectors including industrial, community and households.
