PATTAYA — Police Chief Col. Nawin Theerawit of Pattaya City Station has responded to allegations published by the UK’s Daily Mail regarding a 55-year-old British man named Andrew. The police maintain they followed proper legal procedures, contradicting Andrew’s claims of assault, 36-hour detention, and theft.
According to Col. Nawin, the incident occurred on November 22, 2024, at 8:30 PM when Andrew damaged a vehicle barrier near his residence. Police detained him to calm the situation and fined him 100 baht before release.

The situation escalated when Andrew returned to his accommodation, where his booking had been canceled due to previous complaints about drunk and disorderly conduct. His subsequent outburst led to a second arrest and legal proceedings. Police assert all personal belongings were returned to the suspect, with photographic evidence documented.
Col. Nawin emphasized that the police station’s holding cells are cleaned daily and monitored by CCTV cameras 24 hours a day. The department has thoroughly investigated all claims.
The British man’s account to the Daily Mail notably omitted his intoxication, instead characterizing the incident as an accidental collision with a sign. He alleged police brutality, extortion of 15,000 baht, and theft of personal belongings including £1,230 in cash and bank cards upon returning to his canceled Airbnb booking.
