South Korean Fraud Suspect Caught in Pattaya After Overstay

PATTAYA — Chonburi Immigration Police and Pattaya Tourist Police have jointly arrested Mr. Jiyong, a 41-year-old South Korean national, at an apartment in North Pattaya, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district. The suspect was wanted on an Interpol Red Notice for fraud and had overstayed his visa in Thailand.

The suspect was formerly employed at a major global electronics company in South Korea before being terminated. Following his dismissal, he allegedly continued to pose as a company representative, deceiving customers into placing orders through him. After receiving payments from customers, he failed to deliver any products. The total damages are estimated at 1,155 million won (approximately $920,000), affecting numerous victims. He subsequently fled to Thailand to evade prosecution.

Acting on a tip-off, authorities located and arrested the suspect, who admitted to being the person named in the arrest warrant. During the investigation, officials discovered he had overstayed his permitted duration in Thailand by 90 days. He has been detained for legal proceedings and will be handed over to South Korean authorities for prosecution.

The case highlights ongoing cooperation between Thai and international law enforcement agencies in apprehending foreign fugitives seeking refuge in Thailand.
