At the beginning of 2023, officials captured a suspect in a trade in the carcasses of Asian golden cats for sale to superstitious people at a residence in the Jarakae Bua district of Bangkok’s Lat Phrao District.

They continued their inquiry until they discovered an order on a Facebook group called “Maew Pong Again.” The authorities investigated and discovered that the proprietor of the Facebook page is Mr. Kan. BANGKOKKerati Kijmanawat, President of Airports of Thailand (AOT), announced that AOT will increase the fee for departing passengers in six airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, Mae Fah Luang Airport, Chiang Rai Airport, Phuket Airport, and Hat Yai Airport, starting in April 2024.

It will rise from 700 baht per person to 730 baht per person for international departing passengers and from 100 baht per person to 130 baht per person for domestic departing passengers.

He explained on November 28, that the fee from the Passenger Service Charge (PSC) is legally obliged to be used for the improvement of the airport and for maintenance. Suvarnabhumi Airport has not increased its PSC fee since 2006.

“I would like to emphasize that the increase in PSC is not intended to burden passengers. It is merely a change in the categorization of charges that were included in the tickets. Passengers will not be affected.”

suvarnabhumi 22

Kerati added that increasing the PSC will help AOT generate more revenue. Although the profit may not be that big, AOT is expected to generate more 3.6 billion in revenue in 2024 with the estimated 120 million passengers.

He also mentioned the plan to improve airports with a budget of 16 billion over the next 20 years, between 2022 and 2042, with more automated check-in and baggage acceptance and the plan to reduce time in passport control and immigration. AOT plans to install Automated Border Control (ABC) systems to replace officers.

Suttipong Kongpool, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), said the new PSC fee is under review as it must be reasonable compared to other airports in the world.

Indian Rescuers Pull Out All 41 Workers Who Were Trapped In A Tunnel For 17 Days

UTTARKASHI, India (AP) — All 41 construction workers who were trapped in a collapsed mountain tunnel in northern India for more than two weeks were pulled out on Tuesday, bringing an end to a drawn-out rescue mission that had grabbed the country’s attention for days.

A crowd of local residents gathered around the tunnel erupted in joy and shouted slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, or “Long live mother India,” and set off firecrackers in celebration. Officials presented the first rescued workers with garlands made of flowers, hanging them around their necks as the crowd cheered.

Nitin Gadkari, the minister of road transport and highways, said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was “completely relieved and happy” after all workers were rescued from the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi following an ordeal that lasted 17 days.

“I am very happy that all the 41 trapped workers have come out and their lives have been saved,” he said in a video message posted on X. Gadkari added that “this was a well-coordinated effort by multiple agencies, marking one of the most significant rescue operations in recent years.”

The workers were pulled out through a passageway made of welded pipes that rescuers previously pushed through dirt and rocks. They will each have an initial health checkup at a temporary medical camp set up inside the 13-meter (42.6 feet) wide tunnel.

One of the rescuers, Devender, who only gave his first name, told the New Delhi Television channel that “the trapped workers were overjoyed when they spotted us in the tunnel. Some rushed toward me and hugged me.”

The massive rescue mission had many on edge. The workers got trapped on Nov. 12, when a landslide caused a portion of the 4.5-kilometer (2.8-mile) tunnel they were building in Uttarakhand state to collapse about 200 meters (650 feet) from the entrance.

They survived on food and oxygen supplied through narrow steel pipes.

Kirti Panwar, a state government spokesperson, said about a dozen men had worked overnight to manually dig through rocks and debris, taking turns to drill using hand-held drilling tools and clearing out the muck in what he said was the final stretch of the rescue operation.

Rescuers resorted to manual digging after the drilling machine broke down on Friday while drilling horizontally from the front because of the mountainous terrain of Uttarakhand. The machine bored through about 47 meters (nearly 154 feet) out of approximately the 57-60 meters (nearly 187-196 feet) needed, before rescuers started to work by hand to create a passageway to evacuate the trapped workers.

By Tuesday, they had drilled through more than 58 meters (190 feet). As dusk fell, families of those trapped underground gathered near the site of the accident, anxiously waiting to see their loved ones emerge from the tunnel.

Among them was Jaimal Singh who said he was hopeful he would soon see his brother Gabbar Singh, who is trapped inside. “Even nature looks cheerful today … the weather is good. Let’s hope this ends soon,” he told the Press Trust of India news agency.

Rescue teams had inserted pipes into dug-out areas and welded them together so the workers could be brought out on wheeled stretchers. On Sunday, rescuers also began to create a vertical channel with a newly replaced drilling machine as a contingency plan.

What began as a rescue mission expected to take a few days has turned into weeks, and officials have been hesitant to give a timeline for when it might be completed.

“I just feel good. The drilling on top of the mountain is coming along perfectly, in the tunnel, it’s coming along very well. I have never said ‘I feel good’ before,” Arnold Dix, an international tunneling expert who is helping with the rescue, told reporters at the site earlier on Tuesday.

Most of the trapped workers are migrant laborers from across the country. Many of their families have traveled to the location, where they have camped out for days to get updates on the rescue effort and in hopes of seeing their relatives soon.

As the operation unfolded, the trapped workers were supplied with hot meals through a 6-inch (15-centimeter) pipe after days of surviving only on dry food sent through a narrower pipe. They were getting oxygen through a separate pipe, and more than a dozen doctors, including psychiatrists, were at the site, monitoring their health.

The tunnel the workers were building was designed as part of the Chardham all-weather road, which will connect various Hindu pilgrimage sites. Some experts say the project, a flagship initiative of the federal government, will exacerbate fragile conditions in the upper Himalayas, where several towns are built atop landslide debris.

Large numbers of pilgrims and tourists visit Uttarakhand’s many Hindu temples, with the number increasing over the years because of the continued construction of buildings and roadways.

Tragic Death of a Single Mother and Her Child Underscore the Issue of Loan Sharks

BANGKOK – It has been reported that a 38-year-old single mother committed suicide with her 7-year-old daughter in a house in Chanthaburi province. The tragic incident occurred before Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister and Finance Minister, announced the plan to solve the loan shark problem and declared that it was a “national agenda” on November 28, 2023.

In a suicide note, she wrote that no one understood the pain of having no money and no relatives to sympathize with her. She had been starving for 3 days and was still in debt. She wanted her daughter to go with her.

The single mother wrote that no one understood the pain of having no money and being in debt.

Her 72-year-old father said his daughter was a beverage vendor at the market near a supermarket in Chanthaburi province. She divorced her former husband when her daughter was young. She had borrowed about 50,000 baht from an acquaintance and was stressed about it.

Many Thai citizens are suffering from debt, which has led to several cases of suicide. On November 28, Srettha mentioned that the government would put this long-standing problem on the national agenda.

PM Srettha Thavisin mentioned that the government would put this long-standing debt problem on the national agenda.

“For me, the loan shark is modern world slavery. This is the ‘new world slavery’ that robs people of their freedom and their dreams. This problem is too big to solve without the government as a middleman. We need to work with many sectors today: government officials, the police and the Ministry of Finance to prevent people from falling into the same snare again.”

Srettha emphasized that the government, as mediator, will negotiate fairly with all parties involved. The government will take care from the beginning of the unfair contact to the unfair interest rate and any violence involved.

Bangkok Landlord Shocked by Huge Pile of Trash in Rent Room

The trash piled up to the ceiling in the rent room.

BANGKOK – A landlord was shocked upon discovering that a room in Bangkok she rented out over the past decade to a nice-looking female government official, aged 42, hid mountains of rubbish inside that would require 250 garbage bags to remove them all.

Panadda told Khaosod Online on November 28 that the moment of truth came when she received complaints by other tenants that there were rats, worms, and bad smells coming out of the room’s door. The woman who rented the place hasn’t been back for two years but kept the room and paid the 1,500 baht monthly rent without fail, however.

The tenant claimed she was upset that the landlord didn’t inform her in advance because there were “valuables” in the room.

“My father-in-law and I even cried. We couldn’t accept what we saw. I was shocked by the enormous pile of junk, which was high to the ceiling and some of which had been opened to bring the waste in and pack it as well. The wardrobe was packed full of trash. Worms, rats, and cockroaches are abundant in the waste pile. Some of them were dead and left traces along the room’s walls,” Panadda stated.

She posted the story on FB said she had to ask neighbours for help and the trash piled up to the ceiling. Dead rats and snakes were also found inside the room.

Mountains of rubbish inside that would require 250 garbage bags to remove them all.

“I spent nearly 3,000 baht on garbage bags to clean up the mess in the room, and I counted 250 large bags that the dormitories also came to help themselves with.” But even after thoroughly cleaning, wiping, and washing twice with various detergents, the foul odour remains. I haven’t been able to find a means to clean it up until now. “It is expected that a complete renovation will be necessary,” Panadda stated.

When the tenant was contacted, she was upset that the landlord didn’t inform her in advance, adding there were valuables in the room though the landlord insists there was nothing but piles of trash and proceeded to report the incident to Hua Mak police.
