Indian Man Confesses to Bang Rak Currency Shop Robberies

Police arrest an Indian suspect who robbed currency exchange shops in Bangkok at an apartment complex in Samre Subdistrict, Thonburi District, on May 27, 2025.

BANGKOKAn Indian national was arrested at an apartment complex in Samre Subdistrict, Thonburi District, one day after he committed armed robberies in Bang Rak District. Initially denying the charges, he eventually confessed when confronted with evidence found in his room.

The incident began on May 26 at 7:36 p.m. when Bang Rak Police Station received reports of a foreign man on a motorcycle attempting to rob the X-ONE Currency Exchange Centre on Surawong Road, Suriyawong Subdistrict, Bang Rak District, Bangkok. Though unsuccessful in that attempt, he proceeded to the WISE Exchange on Silom Road, where he successfully stole 93,000 baht ($2,840) in cash before fleeing toward the Sala Daeng intersection.

Metropolitan Police investigators examined the crime scenes and reviewed CCTV footage, identifying the suspect as a foreign national approximately 180 cm tall, with tanned skin, short black hair, and facial hair. He was armed with a handgun of unknown make and model and could communicate in both Thai and English.

Further investigation revealed the suspect had committed an earlier robbery attempt at a KBank branch inside Asiatique shopping center in Wat Phraya Krai Subdistrict, Bang Kho Laem District, at approximately 6:14 p.m. on May 26.

During that incident, he sat in front of the store and sent a mobile phone message in English that translated to “need a certain amount of cash.” When staff refused to hand over money, he drew his weapon threateningly but left empty-handed. Bank employees reported the incident to Wat Phraya Krai Police Station at around 8:50 p.m.

Investigators identified the suspect as Mr. Aman, 23, an Indian national, and obtained a court-issued arrest warrant on charges including nighttime robbery with firearms, using a vehicle to facilitate the crime, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and carrying firearms in public without permission.

Initially, Aman denied all charges, even when police discovered approximately 50,000 baht ($1,525) remaining in his residence, claiming it was his personal savings. However, when officers found clothing and a motorcycle matching those used by the perpetrator, he confessed to acting alone and admitted to using the stolen money for nighttime entertainment. He was subsequently transferred to Bang Rak Police Station investigators for prosecution.
