DSI Seizes 2 Phuket Penthouses Linked to Online Gambling

PHUKET – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has seized two luxury penthouses in the Rawai Beach area of Phuket, which together are worth over 2 billion baht (56.7 million U.S. dollars).

Following the arrest of Mr Phakpoom, or “Deedee,” the chief financial officer of online gambling network UFA on 4 November, investigations have revealed that the true owner of the company is Mr. Phuchit, who has been living abroad for over a year. Mr. Phakpoom is Mr Phuchit’s younger brother and ran UFA’s online gambling business in Thailand together with his sister, Ms. Pornpansa. The DSI has applied for arrest warrants for Phuchit and 12 others.

DSI has seized two luxury penthouses in the Rawai Beach area of Phuket.

Pol. Maj. Suriya Singhhokmol, the Director of DSI, informed that the network seized and arrested in this operation was involved in online gambling and money laundering. The authorities traced the money laundering activities through their accounts and uncovered 80 other accounts involved in money transfers. The investigation led to the identification of three main suspects: Phakpoom and arrest warrants for Phuchit and Pornpansa.

“No one in the industry knew Phuchit because he lived abroad. Phakpoom, on the other hand, had a low-key image and was often seen wearing shorts, T-shirts and flip-flops,” said Pol. Maj Suriya.

A further investigation into the backend system of the UFA online gambling network revealed a daily credit inflow of over 72 billion baht (2 billion U.S. dollars) from international websites. The DSI also found several Thai master agents connected to the network who are currently abroad. The DSI is conducting a thorough investigation and seizing assets to take legal action against this network.

“We are offering people involved in or connected to the seized assets the opportunity to come forward and provide information to investigators. Otherwise, they will also be charged with money laundering,” said the DSI director.

SO/ Maldives to Open November 2023 Castaway Meets Runway

This November will mark the opening of SO/ Maldives, a sartorially-rooted retreat set on a pristine private island and surrounded by the Emboodhoo Lagoon.

Located just a 15-minute speedboat ride from Malé’s Velana International Airport, the hotel harmoniously blends rare accessibility with exquisite privacy, with each of the 80 individually designed villas nestled directly on its own slice of white-sand beach or on stilts above the lagoon.

Innovative restaurant and bar concepts are designed to offer a refreshing counterpart to the ubiquitous resort all-day dining buffet, while the cultural programming will bring together the best of music, fashion, design and art. Throw in an oh-so-chic spa and you have the ultimate exotic-island experience that will never go out of style.

image3 1

The design of SO/ Maldives is bold and structural, drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship and theatricality of contemporary couture. Upon arrival, guests are met by a spectacular, over-water pavilion, which sets the aesthetic tone of the hotel with clean lines, cool neutrals, and natural wood, juxtaposed against vibrant accents and a sculptural, red-latticed central staircase.

The hotel’s distinctive walkways are framed by billowing fabrics or architectural timber canopies, making a striking counterpart to the island’s lush natural flora, and referencing the dramatic styling of high fashion presentations.

Created in collaboration with leading artists and fashion designers, the 80 over-water and beachfront villas are a lesson in inclusive luxury, perfectly suited to everyone from young families and couples to groups of friends seeking sartorial experiences in this covetable pocket of seclusion.

The Citronelle Club is inspired by the flavours of Asia, serving up spice-filled dishes family style, while the menu at destination restaurant Hadaba will feature slow-cooked dishes and smoked delicacies, using both local produce and the finest Levantine ingredients and spices.

Guests looking for a more laid-back vibe can head to Lazuli, a hybrid beach bar and lounge oozing Cote D’Azur charm and elegance, which will play host to DJs and live music programming as the nights draw in.

Indians Are Shocked to See Friend Jump From Pattaya Condo’s 45th Floor

Indian Pattaya
A condominium in South Pattaya Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, where an Indian man fell to death from the 45th floor

PATTAYA – An Indian man died in front of his friends after falling from the 45th story of a luxury condominium in South Pattaya’s Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, on Wednesday night, November 22.

The crime scene was a 46-story condominium. Pattaya City Police officers found the body of the deceased, Mr. Afraim Joseph, 25 years old, from Kerala, India, near a garden on the sixth floor where there’s a pool.

His Indian friends said Afraim and them were in Pattaya for two nights when the incident took place. The man had a quarrel on the phone with his Indian girlfriend back home. Then he went outside and stood alone on the balcony, while they stood and watched from a distance.

“No one expected Afraim to climb the edge of the balcony and jump down right in front of our eyes at that moment.” The incident shocked everyone. “When we regained our composure, we informed the condominium staff to notify the officials to come and check,” one friend explained.

Officials examine the scene of the incident and question close witnesses in depth. The investigation team was also contacted to inspect the CCTV cameras at the same time. An autopsy was done by forensic officers to identify the cause of death.

Previously, a 36-year-old Indian guy unintentionally strangled his Thai lover to death. On Nov. 22, police concluded that an Indian male, Narendra Soni, and a Thai woman, Miss Jirapha, had been dating for nearly a year. When a woman was in a relationship with a new Chinese partner, she requested that her connection with Soni be ended.

Soni felt jealous and flew to Thailand on November 18 to settle love problems and request the return of assets such as the gold necklace he had given her.

The CCTV footage shows the man dragging the woman back into the room.

On November 20, at approximately 12:41 p.m., Soni reserved a room at a Pattaya hotel and scheduled a meeting with Jirapa for 7:00 p.m. to address difficulties. After a while, the pair argued and stormed out of the room. There was silence as the man dragged the woman back into the room. He strangled his girlfriend with a green rope until she died of suffocation.

Until, just before 8:00 p.m., the man left the room, walked to the parking lot, then rode on a motorcycle away from the hotel, headed to the bridge across the Bang Pakong River in Chachoengsao province. When he spotted the police approaching the bridge, he leaped into the river from a height of 20 metres, killing himself.

Israel Unveils What It Claims Is A Major Hamas Militant Hideout Beneath Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — The Israeli military on Wednesday unveiled what it claimed was a Hamas military facility under Gaza’s largest hospital, showing what appeared to be a subterranean dormitory to a group of foreign journalists who were given a rare glimpse inside the besieged enclave.

Dozens of soldiers escorted journalists through a narrow stone tunnel — which the military said stretched 150 meters (164 yards) — to a series of underground bunkers beneath Shifa Hospital in a shattered Gaza City.

The living quarters, located at the end of the tunnel, had an air conditioner, kitchen, bathroom and pair of metal cots in a room fashioned from rusty white tile. They appeared to be out of use.

Since Israel declared war against Hamas on Oct. 7, it has repeatedly accused the Islamic militant group of using Gaza’s hospitals as cover for military use. It has paid special attention to Shifa, saying Hamas has hidden command centers and bunkers underneath the hospital’s sprawling grounds.

Israel has not yet unveiled this purported center, but the military portrayed the underground hideout as its most significant discovery yet. Hamas and the hospital administration have denied Israel’s accusations.

“Shifa Hospital is the hugest hospital in Gaza, and it’s also the hugest terror facility of Hamas,” said Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military’s chief spokesman, as bombardment thundered nearby. “Hamas battalion commanders were conducting command and control, firing rockets from here.”

The Associated Press could not independently verify Hagari’s claims.

The AP was allowed access to Gaza on the condition that its journalist stay with the Israeli military convoy throughout the four-hour tour and submit all material to a military censor ahead of publication. There is no other way for foreign journalists to currently access the enclave.

The war was triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7 cross-border attack that killed at least 1,200 people and took 240 others hostage. Israel’s intense aerial campaign and devastating ground invasion have leveled entire neighborhoods, and well over 11,000 Palestinians have been killed in the fighting, according to health officials in the Hamas-ruled territory.

Bent on toppling Gaza’s Hamas rulers, Israel describes the heavy toll as the inevitable cost of fighting militants who use civilians as human shields and fire rockets from densely populated neighborhoods. Israel says at least some of the hostages were brought to Shifa.

On Wednesday, Israeli soldiers showed the foreign journalists weaponry they said they found at Shifa, including dozens of AK-47 assault rifles, 20 grenades and several drones. Hagari said the cache was just a small sample.

The Israeli military has plowed through northern Gaza over the past month, leaving a trail of destruction in its effort to bomb Hamas’ tunnel network and other targets. Hamas fighters have used the underground network to ambush Israeli troops. In addition to the tunnel it showed journalists, the army says it had uncovered another two shafts near Shifa.

Although the trip was tightly controlled by the Israeli army, journalists could still catch glimpses of life in Gaza. From outside the hospital gates, at least a couple dozen exhausted Palestinians could be seen gathering their belongings, apparently ahead of an evacuation.

Hundreds of patients and doctors remain stranded at the besieged hospital. Thousands more who had been sheltering in its courtyard fled south last week as Israeli tanks drew close and fighting raged.

At one point, several Palestinians leaning out of a window at Shifa locked eyes with journalists. One man gave a thumbs-up. Others started to yell. Israeli soldiers shepherded the journalists away.

What remained on Gaza City’s ghostly streets were the ruins of collapsed buildings, spewing rubble onto streets. The facade of one abandoned building had been blown off, revealing furnished living rooms, glassware in cabinets somehow intact, mirrors still mounted on walls. Fortified bulldozers clawed through sand and gravel to clear the way for more tanks.

About 20 Israeli soldiers sat on the side of a road. They smiled and posed for the journalists’ cameras.

“There’s a great morale. Everyone’s ready to do what has to be done. Everyone’s ready to fight for the country,” said Staff Sgt. Oren, an Israeli soldier who said he is originally from Los Angeles. “Even when it’s hard, you sit with your friends and joke around a little bit. At the end of the day, you know why you’re here.”

The city’s coastal promenade that once bustled with cafes and coffee shops was gone. Instead, there was rubble and a single lifeguard hut. Recent bombing sent black plumes rising into the sky. Gunbattles could be heard rattling in the distance.

In the midst of the devastation, a line of Palestinian evacuees could be seen, carrying their bags and other belongings. As the journalists in the Israeli army convoy passed by, the men and women held up their ID cards to the armored personnel carriers. Some of them waved white flags.

Israeli official says talks continuing, hostage release won’t take place before Friday

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel and Hamas on Wednesday agreed to a four-day cease-fire in the war in Gaza — a diplomatic breakthrough that will free dozens of hostages held by militants as well as Palestinians imprisoned in Israel, and bring a large influx of aid to the besieged territory.

The truce raised hopes of eventually winding down the war, which was triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7 deadly rampage into Israel. Now in its seventh week, the war has leveled vast swaths of Gaza, fueled a surge of violence in the occupied West Bank, and stirred fears of a wider conflagration across the Middle East.

But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a nationally televised news conference that the war would resume after the truce expires. Israel’s goals are to destroy Hamas’ military capabilities and return all 240 hostages held captive in Gaza.

AP23325636292414

“I want to be clear. The war is continuing. The war is continuing. We will continue it until we achieve all our goals,” Netanyahu said, adding he had delivered the same message in a phone call to U.S. President Joe Biden. He also said he had instructed the Mossad spy agency to hunt down Hamas’ exiled leadership “wherever they are.”

The cease-fire efforts hit another hurdle when Israel’s national security adviser said in a late-night announcement that the deal would not take effect before Friday, a day later than originally expected. Tzachi Hanegbi gave no reason for the delay, but Channel 13 TV said there were still some last-minute details being ironed out.

If implemented, the deal temporarily freezes both sides at a tenuous moment.

Thai fans have always rejoiced in the works and lifestyles of K-pop singer “Lisa Blackpink,” or Lisa Manobal. She and her Blackpink companions flew high again on Tuesday night when they attended a glittering state banquet at Buckingham Palace with the South Korean president delegation.

Netizens have shared pictures of South Korean girl band Blackpink ahead of the State Banquet and also video clips in which The King praised them.

The Associated Press reported that King Charles III hosted South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife at a glittering banquet at Buckingham Palace Tuesday, as Britain rolled out the red carpet for a formal state visit aimed at strengthening trade and defense ties between the two countries.

The U.K. government hopes the Korean leader’s three-day visit will help cement an “ Indo-Pacific tilt ” in its foreign and trade policy.

The king and Queen Camilla hosted Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee at a sumptuous white tie and tiara banquet at Buckingham Palace, where Charles paid tribute to South Korea’s political and economic advances and celebrated its culture. The monarch even singled out for praise the K-pop girl group Blackpink, whose members were among more than 170 guests in the grand ballroom.

“I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose, better known collectively as Blackpink, for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience,” Charles said in his banquet speech. “I can only admire how they can prioritize these vital issues, as well as being global superstars.”

“Sadly, when I was in Seoul all those years ago, I am not sure I developed much of what might be called the Gangnam Style!” he joked, referring to the global hit song by Korean rapper Psy.

On Wednesday King Charles III honored the K-pop band Blackpink for their work in raising awareness about climate change, as South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged closer cooperation between their two countries on technology and defense.

On the second day of Yoon’s three-day state visit to London, Charles made Blackpink members Jennie Kim, Jisoo Kim and Lalisa Manoban honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire.

Bandmate Roseanne (Rosé) Park also received an MBE, though hers came without the “honorary” qualifier because she has dual citizenship in New Zealand, one of the 14 countries where the U.K. monarch is head of state.

The honors were presented during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in recognition of Blackpink’s role in promoting the work of the COP26 summit on climate change two years ago in Glasgow, Scotland. Cat Pants

NAKHON RATCHASIMA – The province of Nakhon Ratchasima has introduced cat pants following the market success of elephant print trousers, which are very popular with foreign tourists visiting Thailand.

The “MaMuYaa Korat” event will take place from November 23 to 26, 2023, at Suranaree Monument Square. In addition to showcasing local products, traditional local food and cultural performances, the highlight of the event will be the sale of “cat-patterned trousers.” After the previous event from November 16 to 18, the cat-patterned trousers sold exceptionally well. 300 pairs at 199 baht each were sold out.

The trousers with the cat pattern were created as part of the KORAT MONOGRAM design competition, which was organised by the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the province. The aim was to enhance products and services associated with the city’s identity. The unique monogram design is intended to convey the history, lifestyle, culture and local identity of Nakhon Ratchasima to tourists.

Pajit Manasilp, Chairman of the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce, explained that the KORAT MONOGRAM competition aims to promote competitiveness in various sectors such as business, tourism and sports. The competition emphasises the importance of incorporating the unique history, culture and local characteristics of Nakhon Ratchasima into the design.

Nakhon Ratchasima is a province where Korat cats are famous. The Korat cat is a silver-tipped blue-grey, short-haired breed of domestic cat with a small to medium build and a low percentage of body fat. Its body is semi-cobby, and unusually heavy for its size.

It is an intelligent and playfulactive cat that forms strong bonds with people and is very vocal, with a sound different from other breeds. Among the Korat’s distinguishing characteristics are its heart-shaped head, its large green eyes. Its front paws are shorter than the back paws.

Both Korat cats and Thai elephants were mascots in the past.

The elephant pattern trousers are popular with international tourists visiting Thai temples such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) and the Grand Palace, where modest dress is required. Tourists often buy these comfortable and practical trousers from Thai vendors, making them a popular souvenir. Celebrities and athletes have also worn these trousers and promoted them on social media.

In 2013, Americans Nathan Coleman and James Brooks bought a pair of elephant-print trousers as a souvenir from Thailand. Impressed by the comfort and style, they founded the company “The Elephant Pants” and had the trousers produced in Chiang Mai. They donate ten percent of their profits to organizations that support the care and protection of wild animals. In the first two years, their company generated around 7 million US dollars.

A day later Ann Jakkaphong posted a message to insist that the JKN situation would not affect to the Miss Universe pageant in San Salvador.

“No matter what…. I always put The Miss Universe Organization as my first priority in life. No matter how joyful or painful it’s gonna be…. Ann Jakkaphong made headlines internationally in 2022 when she bought the Miss Universe Organization from IMG for $20 million.

During the Miss Universe 2023 event, she showed her confidence of the business with broadcasting copyright holders from 95 different countries.

After being criticised by Thai beauty pageant fans who were dissatisfied that Miss Universe Thailand, Anntonia Porsild, finished as first runner-up, Ann Jakkapong responded by claiming that she had not paid the Miss Universe Organization to have a Thai representative win.

“If you want everyone to believe that Thai people possess everything and are able to win anyone, that’s probably not true, and we wouldn’t be proud of it,” she said.
