Israel Unveils What It Claims Is A Major Hamas Militant Hideout Beneath Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — The Israeli military on Wednesday unveiled what it claimed was a Hamas military facility under Gaza’s largest hospital, showing what appeared to be a subterranean dormitory to a group of foreign journalists who were given a rare glimpse inside the besieged enclave.

Dozens of soldiers escorted journalists through a narrow stone tunnel — which the military said stretched 150 meters (164 yards) — to a series of underground bunkers beneath Shifa Hospital in a shattered Gaza City.

The living quarters, located at the end of the tunnel, had an air conditioner, kitchen, bathroom and pair of metal cots in a room fashioned from rusty white tile. They appeared to be out of use.

Since Israel declared war against Hamas on Oct. 7, it has repeatedly accused the Islamic militant group of using Gaza’s hospitals as cover for military use. It has paid special attention to Shifa, saying Hamas has hidden command centers and bunkers underneath the hospital’s sprawling grounds.

Israel has not yet unveiled this purported center, but the military portrayed the underground hideout as its most significant discovery yet. Hamas and the hospital administration have denied Israel’s accusations.

“Shifa Hospital is the hugest hospital in Gaza, and it’s also the hugest terror facility of Hamas,” said Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military’s chief spokesman, as bombardment thundered nearby. “Hamas battalion commanders were conducting command and control, firing rockets from here.”

The Associated Press could not independently verify Hagari’s claims.

The AP was allowed access to Gaza on the condition that its journalist stay with the Israeli military convoy throughout the four-hour tour and submit all material to a military censor ahead of publication. There is no other way for foreign journalists to currently access the enclave.

The war was triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7 cross-border attack that killed at least 1,200 people and took 240 others hostage. Israel’s intense aerial campaign and devastating ground invasion have leveled entire neighborhoods, and well over 11,000 Palestinians have been killed in the fighting, according to health officials in the Hamas-ruled territory.

Bent on toppling Gaza’s Hamas rulers, Israel describes the heavy toll as the inevitable cost of fighting militants who use civilians as human shields and fire rockets from densely populated neighborhoods. Israel says at least some of the hostages were brought to Shifa.

On Wednesday, Israeli soldiers showed the foreign journalists weaponry they said they found at Shifa, including dozens of AK-47 assault rifles, 20 grenades and several drones. Hagari said the cache was just a small sample.

The Israeli military has plowed through northern Gaza over the past month, leaving a trail of destruction in its effort to bomb Hamas’ tunnel network and other targets. Hamas fighters have used the underground network to ambush Israeli troops. In addition to the tunnel it showed journalists, the army says it had uncovered another two shafts near Shifa.

Although the trip was tightly controlled by the Israeli army, journalists could still catch glimpses of life in Gaza. From outside the hospital gates, at least a couple dozen exhausted Palestinians could be seen gathering their belongings, apparently ahead of an evacuation.

Hundreds of patients and doctors remain stranded at the besieged hospital. Thousands more who had been sheltering in its courtyard fled south last week as Israeli tanks drew close and fighting raged.

At one point, several Palestinians leaning out of a window at Shifa locked eyes with journalists. One man gave a thumbs-up. Others started to yell. Israeli soldiers shepherded the journalists away.

What remained on Gaza City’s ghostly streets were the ruins of collapsed buildings, spewing rubble onto streets. The facade of one abandoned building had been blown off, revealing furnished living rooms, glassware in cabinets somehow intact, mirrors still mounted on walls. Fortified bulldozers clawed through sand and gravel to clear the way for more tanks.

About 20 Israeli soldiers sat on the side of a road. They smiled and posed for the journalists’ cameras.

“There’s a great morale. Everyone’s ready to do what has to be done. Everyone’s ready to fight for the country,” said Staff Sgt. Oren, an Israeli soldier who said he is originally from Los Angeles. “Even when it’s hard, you sit with your friends and joke around a little bit. At the end of the day, you know why you’re here.”

The city’s coastal promenade that once bustled with cafes and coffee shops was gone. Instead, there was rubble and a single lifeguard hut. Recent bombing sent black plumes rising into the sky. Gunbattles could be heard rattling in the distance.

In the midst of the devastation, a line of Palestinian evacuees could be seen, carrying their bags and other belongings. As the journalists in the Israeli army convoy passed by, the men and women held up their ID cards to the armored personnel carriers. Some of them waved white flags.

Israeli official says talks continuing, hostage release won’t take place before Friday

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel and Hamas on Wednesday agreed to a four-day cease-fire in the war in Gaza — a diplomatic breakthrough that will free dozens of hostages held by militants as well as Palestinians imprisoned in Israel, and bring a large influx of aid to the besieged territory.

The truce raised hopes of eventually winding down the war, which was triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7 deadly rampage into Israel. Now in its seventh week, the war has leveled vast swaths of Gaza, fueled a surge of violence in the occupied West Bank, and stirred fears of a wider conflagration across the Middle East.

But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a nationally televised news conference that the war would resume after the truce expires. Israel’s goals are to destroy Hamas’ military capabilities and return all 240 hostages held captive in Gaza.

“I want to be clear. The war is continuing. The war is continuing. We will continue it until we achieve all our goals,” Netanyahu said, adding he had delivered the same message in a phone call to U.S. President Joe Biden. He also said he had instructed the Mossad spy agency to hunt down Hamas’ exiled leadership “wherever they are.”

The cease-fire efforts hit another hurdle when Israel’s national security adviser said in a late-night announcement that the deal would not take effect before Friday, a day later than originally expected. Tzachi Hanegbi gave no reason for the delay, but Channel 13 TV said there were still some last-minute details being ironed out.

If implemented, the deal temporarily freezes both sides at a tenuous moment.

Thai fans have always rejoiced in the works and lifestyles of K-pop singer “Lisa Blackpink,” or Lisa Manobal. She and her Blackpink companions flew high again on Tuesday night when they attended a glittering state banquet at Buckingham Palace with the South Korean president delegation.

Netizens have shared pictures of South Korean girl band Blackpink ahead of the State Banquet and also video clips in which The King praised them.

The Associated Press reported that King Charles III hosted South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife at a glittering banquet at Buckingham Palace Tuesday, as Britain rolled out the red carpet for a formal state visit aimed at strengthening trade and defense ties between the two countries.

The U.K. government hopes the Korean leader’s three-day visit will help cement an “ Indo-Pacific tilt ” in its foreign and trade policy.

The king and Queen Camilla hosted Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee at a sumptuous white tie and tiara banquet at Buckingham Palace, where Charles paid tribute to South Korea’s political and economic advances and celebrated its culture. The monarch even singled out for praise the K-pop girl group Blackpink, whose members were among more than 170 guests in the grand ballroom.

“I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose, better known collectively as Blackpink, for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience,” Charles said in his banquet speech. “I can only admire how they can prioritize these vital issues, as well as being global superstars.”

“Sadly, when I was in Seoul all those years ago, I am not sure I developed much of what might be called the Gangnam Style!” he joked, referring to the global hit song by Korean rapper Psy.

On Wednesday King Charles III honored the K-pop band Blackpink for their work in raising awareness about climate change, as South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged closer cooperation between their two countries on technology and defense.

On the second day of Yoon’s three-day state visit to London, Charles made Blackpink members Jennie Kim, Jisoo Kim and Lalisa Manoban honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire.

Bandmate Roseanne (Rosé) Park also received an MBE, though hers came without the “honorary” qualifier because she has dual citizenship in New Zealand, one of the 14 countries where the U.K. monarch is head of state.

The honors were presented during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in recognition of Blackpink’s role in promoting the work of the COP26 summit on climate change two years ago in Glasgow, Scotland. The awards are part of Britain’s honors system, which recognizes outstanding service to the nation and the wider world.

Lisa Blackpink, or Lalisa Manobal, was praised as Thailand’s soft power. She has helped promote local Thai products, from stick meatballs in Burirum, the traditional Thai crown, to donning a Thai sarong when visiting Ayutthaya.

Later she posted a short video of herself and her friends dancing while using a straw to drink Nong Pho pasteurised milk, with the caption “drinking milk before bed” This leads to a sharp increase in the sales of the cooperative’s products.

Recently, Lisa just cooked her favourite Thai food, “minced shrimp omelette,” in a video shared on Spotify’s Instagram account on Wednesday (Nov. 15), eating it with rice and sprinkling it with chilli fish sauce. She followed to have a Thai dessert of a coconut ice cream sandwich with sticky rice. This video went viral once more when she celebrated reaching 1 billion Spotify streams as a solo K-pop artist.

Thailand Introduces the ‘Cat Pants’ Following Elephant Pants

Cat Pants

NAKHON RATCHASIMA – The province of Nakhon Ratchasima has introduced cat pants following the market success of elephant print trousers, which are very popular with foreign tourists visiting Thailand.

The “MaMuYaa Korat” event will take place from November 23 to 26, 2023, at Suranaree Monument Square. In addition to showcasing local products, traditional local food and cultural performances, the highlight of the event will be the sale of “cat-patterned trousers.” After the previous event from November 16 to 18, the cat-patterned trousers sold exceptionally well. 300 pairs at 199 baht each were sold out.

The trousers with the cat pattern were created as part of the KORAT MONOGRAM design competition, which was organised by the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the province. The aim was to enhance products and services associated with the city’s identity. The unique monogram design is intended to convey the history, lifestyle, culture and local identity of Nakhon Ratchasima to tourists.

Pajit Manasilp, Chairman of the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce, explained that the KORAT MONOGRAM competition aims to promote competitiveness in various sectors such as business, tourism and sports. The competition emphasises the importance of incorporating the unique history, culture and local characteristics of Nakhon Ratchasima into the design.

Nakhon Ratchasima is a province where Korat cats are famous. The Korat cat is a silver-tipped blue-grey, short-haired breed of domestic cat with a small to medium build and a low percentage of body fat. Its body is semi-cobby, and unusually heavy for its size.

It is an intelligent and playfulactive cat that forms strong bonds with people and is very vocal, with a sound different from other breeds. Among the Korat’s distinguishing characteristics are its heart-shaped head, its large green eyes. Its front paws are shorter than the back paws.

Both Korat cats and Thai elephants were mascots in the past.

The elephant pattern trousers are popular with international tourists visiting Thai temples such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) and the Grand Palace, where modest dress is required. Tourists often buy these comfortable and practical trousers from Thai vendors, making them a popular souvenir. Celebrities and athletes have also worn these trousers and promoted them on social media.

In 2013, Americans Nathan Coleman and James Brooks bought a pair of elephant-print trousers as a souvenir from Thailand. Impressed by the comfort and style, they founded the company “The Elephant Pants” and had the trousers produced in Chiang Mai. They donate ten percent of their profits to organizations that support the care and protection of wild animals. In the first two years, their company generated around 7 million US dollars.

PM Defends “Free Visa” Policy After Fewer Chinese Tourists Than Expected

Chinese tourists

BANGKOK – Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin stated on November 22 that the cancellation of flights from multiple Chinese cities to Suvarnabhumi Airport was due to insufficient demand, emphasising that it does not impact the visa exemption policy for Chinese tourists.

“It is not a complete cancellation. If there is a free visa policy, there could be an increase in bookings. However, China’s domestic policy supports domestic tourism and the country’s economic situation is not as good as expected. So although we expected a significant increase in Chinese tourists, this has not materialized. If we had not had this policy, it would have been even worse” he said.

The PM mentioned that during a meeting with Booking.com‘s executives, the parent company of Agoda, they confirmed that Chinese tourists were making transactions roughly three times more than before. The government has focused on the length of stay and spending per person, considering the increased travel expenses after the COVID-19 situation.

Chairman of the Executive Board of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, Piyasvasti Amranand, pointed that economic slowdown within China and the emphasis on promoting domestic tourism by the Chinese government contribute to the lower-than-expected number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand, despite the government’s free visa policy for Chinese tourists.

As a result, he said that the airline is considering reallocating aircraft to routes with higher demand, such as those to Perth, Australia, Oslo, Norway, and increasing flight frequency to Japan.

“Thai Airways had prepared our capacity for the Chinese market at 60 percent of the 2019 level. So far, we have only reached 40 percent and have not been able to increase the frequency and route as expected,” said Piyasvasti.

thai airways china

Thai Airways currently operates flights on five routes to China, including Kunming, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, and Beijing. However, the frequency has not returned to pre-COVID levels.

Kerati Kijmanawat, CEO of Airports of Thailand (AOT), explained that the recovery of China-Thailand flights is about 60 percent compared to 2019, before the pandemic. This phenomenon is not unique to Thailand. Other countries are also facing the challenge of resuming normal air traffic with China, with the recovery rate only around 50 percent of pre-pandemic levels.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), acknowledged that the current influx of Chinese tourists is around 10,000 per day, with an expected increase to about 15,000 per day by the end of the year. TAT is considering proposing an extension of the free visa policy until the end of 2024.

chinese tourist1
Chinese tourists

According to tourism economic data from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, there was a significant increase in the number of Chinese tourists in Thailand during the Golden Week from 1 to 7 October, which rose from an average of 10,000 to 17,000-18,000 per day.

In the past, an average of around 30,000 Chinese tourists came to Thailand every day. Currently, however, these are mainly independent travelers, not tour groups. It is expected that the number of them will gradually increase in 2024.

TAT has set a target of 4–4.4 million Chinese visitors visiting Thailand in 2023 to drive the income of the Chinese tourist market to the target of 257,500 million baht. However, the number of Chinese tourists who visited Thailand in 2023 from January 1 to November 19 was 2,975,155, the second highest after Malaysia which had 3,908,345.

Israel PM Netanyahu Says War Against Hamas Will Not Stop After Cease-fire

JERUSALEM (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will continue its war against Hamas, even if a temporary cease-fire is reached with the Islamic militant group to release hostages.

In comments Tuesday ahead of an expected Cabinet vote on a cease-fire proposal, Netanyahu vowed to press ahead.

“We are at war, and we will continue the war,” he said. “We will continue until we achieve all our goals.”

The Israeli Cabinet was expected to vote on a plan that would halt Israel’s offensive in Gaza for several days in exchange for the release of about 50 of the 240 hostages held by Hamas. Israel has vowed to continue the war until it destroys Hamas’ military capabilities and returns all hostages.

The comments came as Israel and Hamas appeared close to a deal to temporarily halt their devastating six-week war so that dozens of hostages being held in the Gaza Strip could be freed in exchange for Palestinians in Israeli prisons.

Hamas predicted a Qatari-mediated deal could be reached in “the coming hours,” while Netanyahu was convening top decision-makers to discuss the matter.

“We are advancing,” Netanyahu told troops during a visit earlier Tuesday to a training base. “I hope there will be good news soon.”

The announcement came as Israeli troops battled Palestinian militants in an urban refugee camp in northern Gaza and around hospitals overcrowded with patients and sheltering families.

Netanyahu’s office said the special three-member War Cabinet met Tuesday and would be followed by meetings of his Security Cabinet, a forum of senior security officials, and the full Cabinet.

There was no word on whether a vote would take place, and details of a deal were not released. Israeli media reported that an agreement would include a five-day halt in Israel’s offensive in Gaza and the release of 50 hostages held by Hamas in exchange for some 150 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

Israel’s Channel 12 TV said the first releases would take place Thursday or Friday and continue for several days.

Talks have repeatedly stalled. But even if a deal is reached, it would not mean an end to the war, which erupted on Oct. 7 after Hamas militants stormed across the border into southern Israel and killed at least 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and kidnapped some 240 others.

THE TOLL IN GAZA

In weeks of Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion, more than 11,000 Palestinians have been killed, two-thirds of them women and minors, and more than 2,700 others are missing and believed to be buried under rubble, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The ministry says it has been unable to update its count since Nov. 11 because of the health sector’s collapse.

Gaza health officials say the toll has risen sharply since, and hospitals continue to report deaths from daily strikes, often dozens at a time.

The Health Ministry in the West Bank last reported a toll of 13,300 but stopped providing its own count Tuesday without giving a reason. Because of that, and because officials there declined to explain in detail how they tracked deaths after Nov. 11, the AP decided to stop reporting its count.

The Health Ministry toll does not differentiate between civilians and combatants. Israel says it has killed thousands of Hamas militants but has not provided evidence for its count.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli strike killed two journalists with Al-Mayadeen TV, according to the Hezbollah-allied Pan-Arab network and Lebanese officials. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. A separate Israeli drone strike in Lebanon killed four Hamas members, a Palestinian official and a Lebanon security official said.

The Israeli military has been trading fire almost daily across the border with Lebanon’s Hezbollah group and Palestinian militants since the outbreak of the war.

TALKS ON HOSTAGES

Israel, the United States and Qatar, which mediates with Hamas, have negotiated for weeks over a hostage release that would be paired with a temporary cease-fire and the entry of more aid.

In Washington, President Joe Biden said Tuesday that a deal on releasing some hostages was “very close.”

“We could bring some of these hostages home very soon,” he said at the White House.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Majed al-Ansari expressed optimism, telling reporters that “we are at the closest point we ever had been in reaching an agreement.” He added that negotiations were at a “critical and final stage.”

Izzat Rishq, a senior Hamas official, said Tuesday that an agreement could be reached “in the coming hours,” in which Hamas would release captives and Israel would release Palestinian prisoners. Hamas’ leader-in-exile, Ismail Haniyeh, also said they were close to a deal.

Israel’s Channel 12 TV, citing anonymous Israeli officials, said a truce could be extended and additional Palestinian prisoners released if there were additional hostages freed.

FIGHTING IN JABALIYA AND AROUND HOSPITALS

Inside Gaza, the front line of the war shifted to the Jabaliya refugee camp, a densely built district of concrete buildings near Gaza City that houses families displaced in the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s creation. Israel has bombarded the area for weeks, and the military said Hamas fighters have regrouped there and in other eastern districts after being pushed out of much of Gaza City.

The fighting in Jabaliya also affected two nearby hospitals, trapping hundreds of patients and displaced people sheltering inside. A strike Tuesday hit inside one of the facilities, al-Awda, killing four people, including three doctors, the hospital director told Al-Jazeera TV. The director, Ahmed Mahna, blamed the strike on Israel, a claim that AP could not independently confirm.

Residents of Jabaliya said there was heavy fighting as Israeli forces tried to advance under the cover of airstrikes. “They are facing stiff resistance,” said Hamza Abu Mansour, a university student.

The Israeli military said strikes hit three tunnel shafts where fighters were hiding and destroyed rocket launchers. Footage released by the military showed Israeli soldiers patrolling on foot as gunfire echoed around them.

It was not possible to independently confirm details of the fighting.

It’s unclear how many Palestinian civilians remain in northern Gaza, but the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees estimates that some 160,000 people are still in its shelters there, though it can no longer provide services. Thousands more still shelter in several hospitals in the north even after many fled south in recent weeks.

Most hospitals are no longer operational. The hospital situation in Gaza is “catastrophic,” Michael Ryan, a senior World Health Organization official, said Monday.

With Israeli troops surrounding the Indonesia Hospital, also near Jabaliya, staff had to bury 50 dead in the facility’s courtyard, a senior Health Ministry official in the hospital, Munir al-Boursh, told Al-Jazeera TV.

Up to 600 wounded people and some 2,000 displaced Palestinians remain stranded at the hospital, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

A similar standoff played out in recent days at Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s largest, where over 250 patients and medical workers are stranded after the evacuation of 31 premature babies.

Israel has provided evidence in recent days of a militant presence at Shifa. But it has yet to substantiate its claims that Hamas had a major command center beneath the facility, allegations denied by Hamas and hospital staff.

DIRE CONDITIONS IN NORTH AND SOUTH

Most of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million have crowded into the southern section of the Gaza Strip, where Israeli strikes have continued and where the military says it intends to extend its ground invasion. Many are packed into U.N.-run schools and other facilities across the territory’s south or sleeping on the streets outside, even as winter rains have pelted the coastal enclave in recent days.

There are shortages of food, water and fuel for generators across all of Gaza, which has had no central electricity for over a month.

Strikes overnight crushed residential buildings in the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least 20 people, according to hospital officials. Footage from the scene showed the legs of five young boys sticking out from under a collapsed concrete slab of one home.

Israel continues to strike what it says are militant targets throughout Gaza, often killing women and children. Israel accuses Hamas of using civilians as human shields.

Thai Officials Are Investigating Chinese Beggars and Human Trafficking

Chinese beggars

BANGKOK – Six Chinese beggars were arrested in Bangkok on November 21, 2023, and are being questioned. The investigation is still underway to determine whether it is an international human trafficking organisation using Thailand as a base to send money back to China after they found that each of them earned approximately 10,000 baht a day.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsaeng, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, ordered the arrest of Chinese beggars in the area of Pathumwan, Phaya Thai, Bang Phlat, Bang Rak, and Thung Maha Mek, a total of 6 people, since Sunday, November 19.

Officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Bang Phlat Police Station started to inspect the Pinklao area in front of a well-known department store on Sunday after receiving reports that there are Chinese men and women begging there.

Firstly, they found two Chinese women whose faces appeared to have acid burns. They also have incomplete hands. One of them, who wore a Thai student uniform, fled inside the department store lavatory. The cops then came in and invited her to be inspected. They noticed she had multiple 20-baht coins and bills, totaling 10,700 baht from begging all day.

Later, a Thai woman claimed to be the interpreter for Chinese beggars who came to the police station and requested their release by promising to pay bail. However, the police did not release them because they needed to examine whether these people had been trafficked.

According to investigation  It is believed that Chinese beggars and their interpreters know each other, even though they did not enter to Thailand at the same time. Two Chinese beggars lived together in the Wang Thonglang neighbourhood, while others were allocated among Bangkok’s hotels.

The beggars who were apprehended at Phaya Thai and Bang Phlat police stations claimed to have been travelling till they ran out of money. One beggar tried to convert a tourist visa to a student visa by applying to a Thai university.

A female Chinese beggar whose face and head appeared to have acid burns was arrested on November 18, 2023.

It was initially assumed that Thais were involved. Officials will also take action against individuals who supply such beggars with shelter.

Sarawut Munpho, Director of the Division of Welfare Protection and Quality of Life Promotion, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, stated that since 2016 until now, there have been 7,151 beggars, comprising 4,678 Thais and 2,473 foreigners aged 22–47 years, the majority of whom are Cambodians, and 68 Chinese.

Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, addressed the issue of Chinese beggars at Government House, suggesting that these Chinese beggars may be victims of international human trafficking.

The ministry has been coordinating with various agencies, including the security and police forces. He stressed that cases involving Thai nationals are easier due to existing laws, but for foreign cases, especially those with expired passports, there are additional legal difficulties in entering the country.

Varawut emphasized that begging is illegal throughout Thailand, whether through trespassing or violations of various related laws. The problem of human trafficking in Thailand is a top priority and investigations into each case are continuing. He urged law enforcement agencies to intensify investigations into similar cases to understand their link to human trafficking.

He sent a message to the public through the mass media asking them to report any case of begging. He pointed out that both begging and giving alms to beggars is an offence against the law. When encountering foreign beggars, especially in crowded areas, citizens are urged to immediately report to the Human Security Emergency Management Center (HuSEC) by calling the hotline 1300. The center has rapid response units and officers to deal with such problems urgently.

Currently, Thailand is in the process of preparing the Tip Report or reporting on human trafficking to the relevant foreign authorities. It is expected to be finalized by the end of this year and submitted to the relevant authorities in January 2024.

Thailand is therefore required to submit this report annually, which consists of three main sections: 1) judicial proceedings and prosecution, 2) prevention and awareness raising, and 3) victim assistance and support. Various agencies, including the National Police, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, oversee each section.

Thailand is currently classified as Tier 2, which corresponds to a medium level. The government has been actively working to maintain this status both in the current and previous terms of office. The aim is to elevate Thailand to Tier 1.

PM Srettha Thavisin on Tuesday rode on the newly operated the Pink Line sky train from Minburi Station to Wat Phra Sri Station on Nov. 21.

“Infrastructure development is important. The country has a good image that there is convenience in travelling and that it is suitable for foreign investment coming to establish offices in Thailand, thanks to BTS, which provides good infrastructure to provide comfort to citizens living on the outskirts of the city, starting from the Green Line that has been made for more than 20 years,” remarked the Prime Minister.

The Pink Line electric train construction has been delayed for nearly two years, according to Keeree Kanjanapas, the founder and chairman of BTS Group Holdings. We are very happy that it can be opened. The Cabinet is scheduled to review and authorise the collection of fares at the rate of 15-45 baht next week.

“We fully support the government’s policy of charging no more than 20 baht for electric trains running the entire length of the line.” However, we must wait to see how the government will care for the private sector that invests, which takes time. “This is a very sensitive situation,” Keeree explained.

He also responded to a question concerning the Green Line charging passengers at station extensions by saying it is up to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and that the BTS will not intervene.
