Si Thammarat 'Weird' Coconut Attracts Lotto Hunters

(9 June) Latest hint of
winning lottery number for the next round of drawing could probably be found in a coconut in Nakorn
Si Thammarat province.

The bright green coconut is being displayed from a small altar at
Maheyong Temple, Tha Sala district, where locals crowded to witness what they described as a
miraculous fruit. The coconut is around 20 centimeter long with 15-20 centimeter
diameter.

What drew the locals? attention is their shape: instead of a sphere, the green
coconut grew into 3 oblong parts. Locals say it looks like banana while others are convinced it
looks like ivories. Nonetheless, lotto hunters pray to the coconut, hoping it would bring lucky
numbers. Meanwhile, some lotto vendors hawk their tickets to riches around the
temple.

Rayong Rangers Rescue Baby Elephant From 4 Meter Well

(9 June) The elephant calf that fell into a deep well in Rayong province has been safely rescued by wary officials who had to keep their eyes on the nearby elephant horde.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Samphan Polpo, director of Chamao-Khao Wong National Park Rangers received reports from locals that an elephant calf was stuck in 4 meter deep and 1 meter wide flooded hole, which situated near an abandoned house next to Tubmon-Pawa Road in Tubmon district.

The elephant is estimated to be 1 month old and weigh around 100 kilograms. It could be seen struggling to stay afloat when the rangers arrived with a backhoe truck. Locals told the rescue team that they had been hearing the trapped elephant′s "pathetic" cries all night. It is believed the elephant′s baby might stray into the well during its search for food.

Officials deployed the backhoe truck to extend the width of the hole′s rim so the volunteers could drag the elephant up. The rescue team and the watching locals remained tense throughout the operation because around 20 fully grown elephants were wandering nearby, including the elephant′s mother.

Rangers feared the mother might be mistaken that the rescue party was hurting its baby and lead a charge against the crowding humans.

Eventually, the elephant baby was brought up. It was in safe condition but very exhausted, as it had been in water for hours. Its legs bled lightly. Shortly afterwards, the elephant started to panic and flick its trunk around, so the rangers surrounded the animal from a distance and drove the elephant calf into the forest, where it joined its mother.

activists and Redshirts attended the gathering at Sanam Luang (Royal Field) in Bangkok organized by

She said the fair would include politics parody performances and dancing well into the
night. On the next morning, she said, the group will re-enact the reading of Statement of the
People′s Party at Royal Plaza, where the revolution took place 81 years ago.

(9
June) Workpoint Entertainment, a major Thai TV show production company, spoke out on the allegations
that one of its comedy stars parodied His Majesty the King.

Royalist anti-government
Facebook pages and their ?fans? accuse Teng Terd Terng, a famous Thai comedian, of insulting the
Thai monarch. Their allegation is based on a screenshot of one of his TV appearances, in which he
sat on what appeared to be a wheelchair, holding a camera.

His Majesty the King is known to
make
public appearances
in such postures before, hence the connection.

It is understood that
the anti-government critics are lashing out at Teng Terd Terng, whose real name is Mr. Pongsak Pongsuwan, for his
attendancein birthday
of a prominent Redshirt leader. There, Mr. Pongsak called for Former PM
Thaksin Shinwatra to return to Thailand (Mr. Pongsak later said he was merely joking).

Adored
by many Redshirts, Mr. Thaksin is seen as corrupt dictator and reviled by the Yellowshirts
.
His sister Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra is currently serving as the Prime Minister.

In a statement
released today, Workpoint Entertainment said that the screenshot in fact showed an episode of the
comedy show Ching Roi Ching Larn broadcasted on 17 February this year. The episode was a parody of
a Thai novel about 2 Thais who fell in love during their stay in Japan, and Mr. Pongsak was acting
as one of the protagonists as he toured around Japan.

In the episode, Mr. Pongsak was sitting
on a rickshaw – not a wheelchair – and he used his camera to capture the beautiful scenery of Japan,
the statement said.

'Best Bank Staff' Embezzled Over 10 Million Baht

(5 June) Police arrested
2 suspects who are accused of stealing over 10 million baht from Krung Thai Bank in Nakornpanom
province.

The suspects were identified as Ms. Jutamas Suwanbumroong, 28, a master degree
graduate who was awarded Best Employee of the Month by the bank in 2010, and her boyfriend
Mr.Supachet Chanachai, 31, a bureaucrat in Ministry of Education.

Their alleged crimes dated
back to 21 Jan this year when
manager of Krungthai Bank′sNakornpanom branch reported to investigative officers
at Muang Nakornpanom police station that 8,926,200 baht was missing from 3 ATMs. The keys to the
machine were reportedly held by Ms.Jutamas, who works as a teller at the bank.

She
disappeared along with the keys and codes to the machines on Jan 22, and has become a prime suspect.

Investigations revealed she had also transferred 1.7 million baht from a customer account to
Mr.Supachet‘s account. Both of them escaped together.

The suspects reportedly escaped
to Bangkok and were apprehended at Imperial World shopping mall in Bangkok suburb. The 2 suspects
confessed to the crimes.

Questioning revealed that the reason for their robbery of over 10
million baht is Mr.Supachet’s gambling debts. He had been threatened for his life and he had to find
a way to get the money to pay his debtors. His girlfriend then helped him to rob the bank from the
inside. They used 8 million baht to pay off the debt and the remaining amount in their
escape.

Police said that Ms.Jutamas was a well-mannered person from a well of family, with no
debts. Mr.Supachet had always been in debt, although he worked as the Ministry of Education
official. Police believe Mr.Supachet convinced Ms.Jutamas to commit the crime to save him from his
gambling debts.

After the press conference, Ms.Juramas and Mr.Supachet was detained and sent
to investigative officers at Muang Nakornpanom police station and will be lawfully prosecuted on
charges of night time robbery with two or more persons and burglary of an employer, to which both
